The 2022 Civic Hatchback is presented as a redesigned, next-generation model with improved operation and a strong emphasis on everyday usability. Its performance content points to a well-rounded driving experience, and the safety content highlights refined driver-assistance operation and robust crash-structure engineering.

Honda also adds useful ownership-friendly touches, including standard automatic high-beam headlights and a suite of driver aids that are more advanced than before. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-trim features are concentrated near the top of the range, so you’ll want to confirm the equipment level you’re paying for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and Sport Touring trims differ meaningfully in equipment. Lower trims get the simpler cabin and infotainment setup, while Sport Touring adds more sophisticated digital instrumentation, a larger display, and a more premium overall feel. If you want the best mix of features, the top trim is the one that brings the most complete package.
• Powertrain: You can get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower in the lower trims, while Sport and Sport Touring add a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and stronger torque. All trims offer a CVT or a 6-speed manual, and every version is front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard, but rear cross-traffic warning is reserved for Sport Touring, and Low-Speed Braking Control is also limited to Sport Touring with the CVT.
• Infotainment: LX and Sport get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sport Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sport Touring with the CVT is rated at 7.1 L/100 km combined, while the manual transmission is rated at 7.5 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic hatchback’s practicality and core safety tech without paying for the higher-end cabin and infotainment upgrades. It makes sense if you’re focused on value and can live with the simpler equipment list.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more energetic turbocharged engine while staying below the top trim’s price and feature jump. If you want the strongest balance of performance and everyday equipment, this is the one to target.
• Sport Touring: This is the trim to buy if you want the most complete Civic Hatchback experience, including the larger infotainment display, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the most advanced convenience and safety features. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale version and don’t mind paying for it.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, but rear cross-traffic warning is limited to Sport Touring, so that trim has the most complete safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with patience and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 80 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,805 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $26,224 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,620 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to move it quickly.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2022 Civic Hatchback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard, while rear cross-traffic warning is reserved for Sport Touring. Sport Touring models with a CVT also get Low-Speed Braking Control.

A key caveat is that some of the driver aids can feel a little intrusive in operation, and rear cross-traffic warning is not included on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out as a redesigned 11th-generation hatchback that brings back the body style with added practicality and a more polished mainstream feel.

The bottom line: If you want the Civic Hatchback’s redesigned body style, strong safety credentials, and practical everyday versatility, the 2022 is the clear path to consider. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-priced listings near the bottom of the year-round range and move quickly when you find one.
