What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim is the value-oriented choice, while Sport Touring adds quality materials, elegant detailing, a more sophisticated cabin, and a stronger technology presentation. The base trim leaves you with more basic screens and fewer premium touches, and the Sport Touring is the one that brings the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: In Canada, you get the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. You can choose a six-speed manual or a CVT with paddle shifters and a Sport driving mode on Sport Touring, while the Sport trim comes only with a CVT.
• Safety package: Every model gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and low-speed follow capability, automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, but rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are limited to Sport Touring.
• Infotainment: The Sport trim uses a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Sport Touring upgrades you to a 10.2-inch digital display and a 9-inch touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: A manual-transmission Civic Hatchback is expected to average 8.5 L/100 km in city driving, 6.3 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.5 L/100 km combined. With the CVT, those figures improve to 7.7 L/100 km city, 6.3 L/100 km highway, and 7.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 2 trim levels: Sport and Sport Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the value-oriented trim, and it makes the Civic Hatchback accessible without stripping away the core appeal. You still get Honda Sensing, blind-spot monitoring, and the same turbocharged engine, but the cabin tech is more basic, so it suits you best if you care more about the driving experience and practicality than premium features.
• Sport Touring: This is the best-value trim if you want the Civic Hatchback to feel properly upscale and fully equipped. It adds the larger digital display, larger touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, navigation, a premium Bose audio system, and the extra parking and rear cross-traffic features that are missing on lower trims.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are limited to Sport Touring.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 62 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.00% compared with last year.

What is the 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $30,028 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,945 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the car is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean. At the same time, the Civic Hatchback's broad appeal, practicality, and strong safety reputation help support demand. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should still have a solid audience when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback earns Good ratings in nearly all IIHS assessments, with an Acceptable result in the updated side-impact test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it an overall crashworthiness rating of five stars, and it also earned a rare five-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist and low-speed follow capability, automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring is also standard in Canada. However, rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are reserved for Sport Touring.

The Acceptable IIHS side-impact result is the main caveat to keep in mind.
