Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and smooth ride. The Trailblazer also comes across as a practical, value-focused small SUV with broad appeal, especially for shoppers who want something stylish and easy to live with.

That fits the Trailblazer’s role well: it is meant to be an affordable, practical crossover with personality rather than a heavy-duty or high-performance vehicle. With 26.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailblazer comes in LS, LT, Activ, and RS trims. The LT is the value-focused choice in the expert review, while the RS test vehicle was judged too expensive once options were added. The cabin is described as stylish, but also filled with hard plastic, so higher prices do not necessarily bring a big jump in material quality.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the Trailblazer uses a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Front-wheel drive comes with a continuously variable transmission, while all-wheel drive adds a more satisfying nine-speed automatic and a more sophisticated rear suspension.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available.
• Infotainment: The Trailblazer offers a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Chevrolet Connected Services capability. Teen Driver technology is standard, and wireless smartphone charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review cites 9.0 L/100 km in combined driving during testing, compared with an official Natural Resources Canada rating of 8.4 L/100 km combined for AWD and 7.6 L/100 km combined for FWD.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, but the expert review makes clear that the Trailblazer’s strongest value comes from moving up rather than staying at the very bottom of the range.
• LT: This is the best-value trim in the expert review. It is the smart pick if you want the Trailblazer’s style, technology, and everyday usefulness without overpaying.
• Activ: Choose this if you want the more adventurous look and the off-road suspension tuning, sport-terrain tires, and front skid plate described in the review.
• RS: This trim adds the sportiest appearance and the test vehicle’s 18-inch wheels, but the review says the fully loaded price is too high for what you get.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, which helps keep even the lower trims well equipped on the safety front.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 228 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,640 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $21,640 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,617 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Trailblazer has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean. The current market also shows that buyers are price-sensitive, so resale strength will depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The Trailblazer earns top crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Every Trailblazer also comes with 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, and Teen Driver technology.

Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available. That said, some of those features are not standard, so you will want to confirm the exact equipment on any used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a heated steering wheel, new paint colours, and an available dealer-installed trailering package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,472 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,640 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design, strong standard features, and broad trim availability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,084 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,640 CAD average.
• It brings updated paint choices and remains a practical, well-equipped small SUV.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the Trailblazer’s mix of style, safety, and everyday usability at a softened market price. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want a newer example and can spend more, the 2023 is the cleaner upgrade path.
