Is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Suburban’s redesign and 2022 updates point to a vehicle that is meant to be durable, practical, and easy to live with over time. Its standard safety and convenience equipment, along with the available 6.2-litre V8 and diesel options, suggest a well-developed full-size SUV rather than a first-year experiment.

The 5.3-litre V8 is described as adequate, while the 6.2-litre adds effortless power, and the diesel brings strong torque and excellent fuel efficiency. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is simply the cost and complexity that come with a large, heavily equipped SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS is the most basic version, while the LT adds leather seats, a larger digital instrument cluster, Google built-in, and a more premium infotainment setup. Higher trims bring more upscale materials, with the High Country sitting at the top of the range.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel inline-six. The 5.3-litre V8 is the base engine, the 6.2-litre V8 adds more power, and the diesel is the torque-rich efficiency choice.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, front pedestrian braking, rear park assist, following distance indicator, automatic high-beam headlights, and an HD rear-vision camera. For 2022, front park assist, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-departure warning are also standard, while reverse automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available.
• Infotainment: The LS gets an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. LT and above move to a 10.2-inch system with Google built-in, and LT and above also get wireless device charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates V8-equipped Suburbans from 17.0 L/100 km in city driving to 11.8 L/100 km on the highway, with a combined rating of 14 to 15 L/100 km. The 3.0-litre diesel is rated from 11.7 L/100 km city to 8.7 L/100 km highway.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Suburban trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Suburban experience with the standard 8-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full-size SUV space that defines the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it adds leather seats, the 10.2-inch infotainment system with Google built-in, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless device charging. If you want the biggest jump in everyday comfort and technology, this is the one to target.
• RST: This trim leans into a sportier look, with distinctive badging and trim details, and it can be paired with the stronger 6.2-litre V8. It suits you if you want a more expressive appearance and extra power.
• Z71: This is the more rugged-looking choice in the lineup, and it is one of the trims that can get the 6.2-litre V8. It makes sense if you want a tougher visual character and available stronger powertrain choice.
• Premier: This trim moves further up the luxury ladder and can also be paired with the 6.2-litre V8. It is a good fit if you want more upscale equipment without going all the way to the top.
• High Country: This is the top-spec version, with the plushest cabin treatment and the 6.2-litre V8 standard. Choose it if you want the most premium Suburban experience.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and front park assist, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-departure warning are also standard for 2022.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model adds a larger digital instrument cluster on LT and above, standard Google built-in, and expanded standard safety features.

The bottom line: The 2022 is a smart pick if you want the updated tech and safety package without paying peak-market pricing. If you are especially price-sensitive, the softer market and decent inventory make it worth comparing carefully against nearby years before you commit.

How does the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban compare to the 2022 GMC Yukon?

Our experts score the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban 7.5/10 and the 2022 GMC Yukon 7.5/10.

The Suburban gives you more of the classic big-SUV formula: huge space, strong towing ability, and a broad trim walk that includes the 6.2-litre V8 on more versions. The Yukon is similarly rated, but the Suburban’s lower average used price and stronger deal share make it the more appealing value play here. If you want the most room and the better shopping opportunity, the Suburban has the edge.
