Is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Suburban’s redesign brought a more modern cabin and a broader set of standard safety and technology features, which supports the impression of a well-developed full-size SUV. Its available 6.2-litre V8 and diesel options also give you flexibility if you want stronger towing or better efficiency, while the standard 10-speed automatic and independent rear suspension help round out the package.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a large, complex SUV with substantial running costs, so condition, maintenance history, and how it was used matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS is the most basic version, while the LT adds leather seats and a larger digital instrument cluster, and the top trims bring more upscale materials and equipment. If you want the best balance of features and value, the LT is the trim to focus on first.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-litre V8, a 6.2-litre V8, or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel inline-six. The 6.2-litre V8 is the stronger gas option, while the diesel is the efficiency play and still delivers strong torque for hauling.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, front pedestrian braking, rear park assist, following distance indicator, automatic high-beam headlights, and an HD rear-vision camera. For 2022, front park assist, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-departure warning are also standard, while adaptive cruise control, HD surround vision, rear pedestrian alert, reverse automatic braking, lane-changing assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a head-up display are available.
• Infotainment: The LS gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth audio streaming, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice recognition. LT and above upgrade to a 10.2-inch system with Google built-in, satellite radio, wireless device charging, and a larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: According to Natural Resources Canada, V8 models range from 17.0 L/100 km in city driving to 11.8 L/100 km on the highway, with a combined rating of 14 to 15 L/100 km. The 3.0-litre diesel is rated from 11.7 L/100 km city to 8.7 L/100 km highway.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Suburban trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Suburban experience with the standard 8-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full-size cabin space that defines the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seats, the larger 10.2-inch infotainment system with Google built-in, wireless charging, and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. If you want the biggest jump in everyday comfort and tech without going all the way up the range, this is the one to target.
• RST: This trim leans into a sportier look, with distinctive styling and the option of the 6.2-litre V8. It suits you if you want a more expressive Suburban and stronger performance.
• Z71: This is the more rugged-leaning choice, and it is also one of the trims that can get the 6.2-litre V8. It is the one to consider if you want the Suburban’s capability with a tougher personality.
• Premier: This trim moves further upmarket and can also be paired with the 6.2-litre V8. It is a good fit if you want a more premium-feeling Suburban with stronger available power.
• High Country: This is the top-spec version, with the most upscale cabin treatment and the standard 6.2-litre V8. Choose it if you want the most luxurious take on the Suburban.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and front park assist, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-departure warning are part of the 2022 safety update.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Suburban?

It looks like a buyer’s market for you right now, with pricing softened and a meaningful share of listings sitting in the value zone.

• Deal availability: 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 60 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.53% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $50,696 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban's resale value?

The current average of $50,696 CAD sits slightly below last year's $62,224 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key question is whether the Suburban’s strong utility and broad appeal can stabilise demand once depreciation slows.

Because this model year still offers a large cabin, strong towing ability, and a well-equipped feature set, it should remain attractive to shoppers who need a full-size SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban safe?

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban earns four-star ratings in front crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side crash protection and all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, front pedestrian braking, rear park assist, following distance indicator, automatic high-beam headlights, and an HD rear-vision camera. For 2022, front park assist, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-departure warning are also standard, while adaptive cruise control, HD surround vision, rear pedestrian alert, reverse automatic braking, lane-changing assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a head-up display are available.

One caveat is that the current-generation Suburban has not been tested by IIHS, so you do not get that additional crash-test benchmark here.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year adds meaningful tech and safety upgrades, including standard Google built-in, a larger digital instrument cluster on LT and above, and expanded standard driver-assistance features.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated tech, strong utility, and a market that is currently leaning in your favour, the 2022 is the smart year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2022 gives you a more modern feature set without losing the Suburban’s core strengths.
