Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners highlighting comfort, fuel efficiency, and a vehicle they feel good about living with over time. The powertrain is simple, with a single turbocharged four-cylinder and six-speed automatic, which can be appealing if you want fewer moving parts to worry about. Chevy’s warranty coverage is also competitive for the segment.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Equinox is not the freshest design in its class, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RS adds black exterior trim, darkened 19-inch wheels, a black interior with red stitching, and a model-specific shift knob. Most trim levels get cloth seats as standard equipment, while perforated leather upholstery is available.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trim levels get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch instrument-cluster screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the FWD model at 8.4 L/100 km combined, 8.9 city, and 7.7 highway. AWD models rate at 8.8 L/100 km combined, 9.4 city, and 8.0 highway.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 3 trim levels: LS, LT, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core Equinox experience with the standard tech and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra appearance and convenience upgrades.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the base model without pushing you into the highest price bracket. It is the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of equipment and affordability.
• Premier: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the Equinox lineup and are willing to pay more for it. It suits buyers who want the top trim’s added polish and available equipment.

Safety equipment expands as you move up the lineup, so check carefully which driver-assistance features are standard on the trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 404 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,302 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $22,302 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,523 CAD.

That decline suggests the Equinox has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price it competitively later. For a future seller, that also means you may need to be realistic about resale expectations if the market stays soft. Strong value positioning and broad appeal can help, but the current trend favours buyers more than sellers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox received top “Good” scores in most Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but received a “Marginal” rating in the updated side crash test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it a five-star overall safety rating, with five stars in frontal and side crash tests, and four stars in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist and safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Optional features include a Safety Alert Seat, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.

The Marginal IIHS side-crash result is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds revised styling, wireless smartphone integration, and available parking-assist tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,732 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,302 CAD average.
• It adds a little extra power and a more sophisticated braking system.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better pick if you want the lower price and the newer tech updates without stretching your budget. If you can spend more and want the modest mechanical and braking improvements, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.

How does the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox compare to the 2022 GMC Terrain?

Our experts score the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox 6.8/10 and the 2022 GMC Terrain 6.7/10. The Equinox edges ahead on value, with a lower average used price and a slightly stronger deal share. The Terrain is priced higher, so it makes more sense if you specifically prefer its positioning rather than shopping purely on cost. Both are closely matched on core specs, so the better buy for you will usually come down to price and available inventory.
