Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RS trim adds black exterior trim, darkened 19-inch wheels, a black interior with red stitching, and a model-specific shift knob. Base trims are more conventional, and cloth seats are standard on most versions, with perforated leather upholstery available.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, Safety Alert Seat, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch instrument-cluster screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Equinox at 8.4 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 8.8 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, RS, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Equinox and are comfortable with the standard equipment set.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more of the features you are likely to want without pushing you all the way to the top of the range.
• RS: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance package, including the black exterior trim and darkened wheels, along with the RS-specific interior treatment.
• Premier: This is the trim to target if you want the most upscale version of the Equinox and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment is strongest when you move up the range, since some driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 408 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,330 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $22,330 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,822 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment. If the market stays well supplied, you may need to price a used Equinox aggressively to stand out. On the other hand, its broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2022 Equinox received top “Good” scores in most Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but received a “Marginal” rating in the updated side crash test. It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in frontal and side crash tests, and a four-star rating in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist and safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Optional features include a Safety Alert Seat, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.

The Marginal IIHS side-crash result is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus available park-assist features and revised styling.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,956 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,330 CAD average.
• It adds a little extra power and a more sophisticated braking system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly updated version, the 2023 is the better alternative for buyers who want the newer changes.

How does the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox compare to the 2022 GMC Terrain?

Our experts score the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox 6.8/10 and the 2022 GMC Terrain 6.7/10. The Equinox edges ahead on value, with a lower average used price and more listings to choose from. The Terrain is pricier, but the two are closely matched on engine output and overall positioning. If you want the stronger shopping pool and better deal potential, the Equinox has the advantage.
