Is the 2022 Audi A3 a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Audi A3 earns a 4/5 user rating and an 8.8/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall package for premium compact-sedan shoppers. It is an all-new generation with standard quattro all-wheel drive, a premium-feeling cabin, and a broad trim range that lets you choose how much equipment you want. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

The A3’s 21.2% good and great deal share suggests there are still some attractive listings in the market.

Is the 2022 Audi A3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The A3’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder is described as a familiar, proven choice for the class, and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is presented as a strong fit for both performance and efficiency. Audi also positions the car as a premium compact sedan with durable materials and a cabin designed to stand the test of time. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that premium features and all-wheel-drive hardware can make upkeep more expensive than on a mainstream compact sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Komfort trim gives you the entry point, while Progressiv adds more equipment and Technik brings the most upscale presentation. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about the digital cockpit and higher-end convenience features.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder with 201 horsepower, 221 pound-feet of torque, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic. The setup is tuned for quick shifting and balanced efficiency rather than outright performance.
• Safety package: Standard Pre Sense Basic, pre sense front, high-beam assist, and lane-departure warning are included, while side assist blind-spot monitoring, Pre Sense Rear, Parking System Plus, Park Assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centring are available. Some of the more advanced driver aids are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The MMI system uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen, with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto included. The 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Technik and available on Progressiv, so base-trim shoppers should check whether the digital cluster is included.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption is 8.5 L/100 km in city driving, 6.6 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.6 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Audi A3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Audi A3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Komfort: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core A3 experience with standard quattro all-wheel drive, the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, and the premium design that defines the car. It makes sense if you want the A3’s fundamentals at the lowest price, but you should check whether you’ll miss the higher-end tech and convenience features.
• Progressiv: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more of the equipment that makes the A3 feel properly premium, including access to the Audi Virtual Cockpit and the Navigation package. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to focus on.
• Technik: This is the most fully equipped version, with the strongest tech and luxury presentation, including standard Audi Virtual Cockpit and the premium audio setup. Choose it if you want the most upscale A3 experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment is strongest when you move up the range, since several driver-assistance features remain available rather than standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 21.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 52 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,162 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Audi A3's resale value?

The current average of $26,560 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,394 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. Premium compact sedans can hold interest when they offer strong equipment, all-wheel drive, and a polished cabin, but resale will still depend on trim, condition, and mileage. If you buy well today, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Audi A3 safe?

The 2022 Audi A3 has not yet been rated for safety by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it its top rating of "Good" in all crashworthiness tests and "Acceptable" in ease of use for LATCH connectors.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes Pre Sense Basic, pre sense front, high-beam assist, lane-departure warning, electronic child locks, rear side airbags, and LATCH anchors in the rear seats. Available driver aids include side assist blind-spot monitoring, Pre Sense Rear, Parking System Plus, Park Assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centring.

Should I buy a 2022 Audi A3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 21.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It arrives as an all-new generation with standard quattro all-wheel drive and a more premium-feeling cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the newest-generation A3 with strong standard equipment and a premium presentation, the 2022 is the right place to start. If your priority is stretching your budget, the softer pricing and decent deal share make this a sensible year to target, especially if you can find a well-equipped Progressiv or Technik.
