CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 21 currently listed for sale near St Catharines, ON and an average price of $40,065 CAD, 33.3% of 2021 Toyota Tundras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Tundra 4.55 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Tundra stands out because it is an older design in a segment that is constantly being updated, yet it still manages to remain relevant. Its appeal comes from the fact that Toyota has kept it current with key updates and special editions, even though its design and underpinnings date back to the mid-2000s. For buyers who value a full-size pickup that focuses on towing, hauling, and getting work done, that straightforward approach can be part of the attraction.
That age also shapes the Tundra’s character in ways shoppers should understand. It does not chase the newest truck trends, and that can be a drawback for buyers who want the latest in-car technology. At the same time, owners often praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, reliability, smooth ride, and comfort features, while fuel mileage is a common complaint. In other words, the 2021 Toyota Tundra is distinctive less because it is cutting-edge and more because it offers a proven, durable formula that still has real appeal.

Smooth ride, very quite, and comfortable. We love it and won’t be buying but a Toyota Tundra from now on; I just wish that I checked into them sooner, my wife had been wanting one for years. Yes, it is a good value. Only thing missing on mine is a hard cover camper for the bed. But I plan on getting that taken care of. Compared to my last truck, 1500 Ram has nothing on this truck. This truck has more in its extras, smoother and quiter ride, and it looks better.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.55/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, and reliability, and they also like the smooth ride and comfort features. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size pickup focused on towing, hauling, and getting work done rather than chasing the newest in-cabin technology. The market also shows 35.4% of listings as good or great deals, which adds to its appeal for value-minded shoppers.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights reliability, dependability, and a durable, trouble-free character, with many buyers valuing the truck’s proven formula and quality construction. The expert assessment also points to a rugged, work-focused design that has been kept relevant with modern infotainment and safety updates. Toyota’s standard safety and technology upgrades help reduce some ownership concerns, but you should still expect the usual used-truck risks tied to age, mileage, and prior work use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Double Cab includes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, and heated front seats. Higher trims and packages add features such as leather seats, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, memory functions, and premium audio, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want more comfort or convenience.
- Powertrain: You get Toyota’s 5.7-litre V8 with 391 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive with low range in Canada. It delivers strong acceleration and confident performance, but the truck’s older drivetrain layout is part of why fuel efficiency trails newer rivals.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so check whether the truck you’re considering has those extras.
- Infotainment: The Tundra comes with a standard 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, multiple USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. Navigation is available, and the system’s hard buttons make it easy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates all grades at 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 16.3 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the observed average was 17.0 L/100 km.
Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: Double Cab, CrewMax SR5, TRD Offroad, TRD Sport Premium, Trail, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Double Cab: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the lowest-cost way into the Tundra’s standard V8, four-wheel drive, and core safety and infotainment equipment. It gives you the essentials without the added cost of luxury or appearance upgrades.
- CrewMax SR5: This is the most affordable CrewMax choice and a smart pick if you want the roomier cab layout without jumping straight to premium pricing. It also serves as the starting point for the Trail Special Edition package.
- TRD Offroad: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented hardware and appearance upgrades, including Bilstein shocks, all-terrain tyres, and available extras such as a power moonroof and LED headlamps and fog lamps.
- TRD Sport Premium: This trim adds a sportier look and feel with 20-inch alloys, sport-tuned shocks, and a hood scoop, making it a better fit if you care more about style and road presence than trail hardware.
- Trail: This package brings black badging, dark grey wheels, a unique grille, and Predator side steps, so it suits you if you want a more distinctive appearance without moving into the highest-priced trims.
- Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with heated and ventilated front seats, memory functions, chrome heated power-folding mirrors, and upgraded interior materials. It is the best fit if comfort and premium features matter most.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 99 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $46,442 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $47,978 CAD sits slightly below last year's $51,464 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make resale softer in the near term if you plan to sell soon. For future sellers, the key question is whether the truck’s age and fuel consumption outweigh its reputation for durability and strong owner satisfaction. Because demand remains tied to its proven, work-ready character, well-kept examples should still attract interest from shoppers who value reliability over novelty.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Every Tundra also comes with eight airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a tow package with a heavy-duty hitch receiver and transmission cooler. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has those features if they matter to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Toyota keeps the older Tundra relevant with standard modern infotainment and safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $46,570 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $47,978 CAD average.
- It leans heavily on proven durability and long-term ownership appeal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $48,354 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $47,978 CAD average.
- It brings a thoroughly updated, all-new design with broader configuration choices.
The bottom line: If you want the proven second-generation Tundra formula with modern safety and infotainment, the 2021 is the sensible middle ground. If your priority is the lowest purchase price, the 2020 is worth a look; if you want the newest design and broader updates, move to the 2022.
