Is the 2021 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Subaru Forester earns a 5/5 user rating, which is a strong sign that it delivers on what matters most to used-SUV shoppers. Owners consistently praise its spacious feel, safety features, and reliability, and many also like its attractive design and good handling. Is the 2021 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable SUV that many people feel comfortable counting on for daily use. That reputation is reinforced by the model’s practical layout and safety-first character, which are exactly the traits many used buyers want in a long-term vehicle. For used shoppers, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained properly, especially if you plan to keep it for the long haul.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,038 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $26,183 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,921 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a good entry point for you now, but it also means future sellers may not see rapid appreciation from this model year. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, the Forester’s steady demand should help support a more stable resale position later. Its practical reputation and broad appeal make it easier to market than many less versatile SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,056 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,183 CAD average.
• It adds a Wilderness trim with a tougher, more off-road-focused character.

The bottom line:
You should lean toward the 2021 if you want the better value and a proven formula with strong owner approval. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year and want the added ruggedness of the 2022’s Wilderness option, that is the better secondary path for you.
