Is the 2021 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Subaru Forester earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. That lines up well with its practical compact-SUV mission, especially if you want a sensible used SUV with standard all-wheel drive and a strong safety focus. The owner feedback highlights reliability, and reviewers also describe it as trustworthy and dependable for everyday use. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the concept of the vehicle and more about checking how well a specific example has been maintained.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 182 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,035 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $26,188 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,739 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum alone. If demand stays steady, the Forester’s practical reputation should help support values, but you should still expect pricing to be sensitive to how clean and well-kept the vehicle is.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,231 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,188 CAD average.
• It adds the Wilderness trim for more rugged off-road capability.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the better value and the core Forester strengths at a lower entry price. Consider the 2022 if you’re willing to pay more for the added ruggedness and updated appeal, especially if off-road capability matters to you.
