Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the smooth ride, roomy cabin, and overall value. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the Rogue as a well-rounded, practical choice with improvements that benefit the whole line-up.

Nissan’s three-year, 60,000-kilometre basic warranty and five-year, 100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty add some reassurance, but used buyers should still check service history carefully because long-term ownership risk always depends on maintenance and prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup gives you standard LED headlamps and the redesigned exterior, but higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment. The SV AWD with the Premium Package brings leatherette upholstery, heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate, while the Platinum adds semi-aniline quilted Nappa leather and more upscale interior treatment.
• Powertrain: You get one 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine across the range, paired with a CVT. It is tuned for improved performance and fuel efficiency versus the outgoing version, but shoppers wanting more power or a turbocharged option will not find one here.
• Safety package: Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV, and the Platinum adds Navi-link functionality.
• Infotainment: Most models use an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Platinum upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and a 10.8-inch head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Rogue can use 8.9 L/100 km in city driving, 7.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.1 L/100 km combined in front-wheel-drive form, while all-wheel drive increases those figures to 9.2, 7.2, and 8.3 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the redesigned Rogue, standard LED lighting, the 8-inch touchscreen, and Safety Shield 360. If you want the lowest entry price and the core redesign benefits, this is the trim to start with.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades like available all-wheel drive, more USB ports, in-car Wi-Fi hotspot access, NissanConnect services, and ProPILOT Assist. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with the 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, head-up display, Bose audio, and richer interior materials. It suits you if you want the most premium Rogue experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the range, while ProPILOT Assist arrives on the SV and Navi-link is added on the Platinum.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 540 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.39% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,162 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $21,162 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,012 CAD.

That softer pricing means the Rogue is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help you if you're shopping now. For a future seller, it also suggests there may be less room for appreciation unless market conditions tighten.

Even so, the Rogue’s broad appeal, strong equipment levels, and practical packaging should help it remain easy to market to used buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with earlier examples scoring three stars in frontal crash testing before later versions were upgraded to four stars.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is standard on the SV and adds hands-on highway driving support, while the Platinum’s Navi-link version can assist with steering and slowing through curves.

The main caveat is that earlier examples of the Rogue scored only three stars in frontal crash testing before Nissan made adjustments.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a full redesign with a new platform, new engine, and broader improvements across the range.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,467 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,162 CAD average.
• It offers familiar comfort and practical everyday usability.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,472 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,162 CAD average.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine and stronger efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of value, redesign benefits, and market availability, the 2021 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer powertrain and can stretch for it.

How does the 2021 Nissan Rogue compare to the 2021 Mazda CX-5?

Our experts score the 2021 Nissan Rogue 7.8/10 and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 7.5/10. The Rogue is the stronger value play here, with a lower average used price and more listings to choose from. The CX-5 has the edge on engine output and a slightly higher share of good and great deals, but the Rogue counters with a roomier-feeling ownership proposition and stronger market availability.
