What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower-grade trims use darker colours, smaller wheels, and plain all-black cloth interiors, while the SL adds padded leather trim on the centre console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts. The base S also has a coarser fabric-and-plastic feel than the higher trims.
• Powertrain: You get a single 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. FWD is standard on the S and SV, while AWD is optional on those two trims and standard on the rest.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous system, and it works with adaptive cruise control and the Rogue’s safety features to help steer on gentle turns. Standard equipment also includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, a rear-view camera, and automatic emergency braking. ProPilot Assist is only available as an option on the SL.
• Infotainment: The Rogue’s infotainment system was redesigned for 2018, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. It also has a customizable home screen, and NissanConnect adds telematics features such as remote unlocking and automatic 911 notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined for FWD models, while AWD models use 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.7 L/100 km combined. In testing, it averaged 9.8 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL AWD, SL Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core practicality at the lowest price. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the model and can live without the richer trim materials and higher-end extras.
• SV: This is the best-value trim. It adds more equipment while staying close to the sweet spot in the lineup, and it’s the trim the cost-effectiveness commentary points to as the one that makes the most sense for many buyers.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it’s the trim to consider if appearance matters more to you than major equipment changes.
• SL AWD: This is the trim to choose if you want the more upscale feel and the available ProPilot Assist technology. It also gets AWD as standard, which may matter if you want the added traction.
• SL Platinum: This is the fully loaded version, with the most upscale presentation and the most premium-feeling cabin details.

ProPilot Assist is only available on the SL, so if that system matters to you, you need to shop at that level or above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should still compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 529 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,711 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $14,784 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,099 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Rogue has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract interest if they price competitively. The current market also shows that value is still tied closely to condition, equipment, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the model has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain reasonably steady for clean examples with the right equipment and service history. That helps support resale value over time, even if the broader market has softened.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA. It scored five-star ratings in side crash tests, while the front-impact crash tests scored three stars for the front passenger and four stars for the driver.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue’s standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, and a rear-view camera. ProPilot Assist is available only on the SL, so not every trim gets the full driver-assistance experience.

The main caveat is that the front-impact NHTSA results are weaker than the side-impact results, so you should pay attention to trim and equipment when comparing used examples.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year adds available ProPilot Assist and a redesigned infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The bottom line: If you want the Rogue’s strongest mix of comfort, tech, and value, the 2018 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find attractive used examples, but you should prioritise condition and equipment because the best-equipped trims carry the most appeal.
