Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?

Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.83/10, the 2021 Nissan Rogue is a strong pick if you want a compact SUV that feels well rounded. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, roomy interior, attractive design, and overall value. That lines up well with the Rogue’s broad redesign, which gives you meaningful upgrades across the range rather than reserving the best parts for the top trim.

With 30.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the Rogue’s smooth ride, value, and everyday usability. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the model as a well-rounded redesign with improvements that benefit the full range.

Nissan’s three-year, 60,000-kilometre basic warranty and five-year, 100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty add some reassurance, but used buyers should still check service history and condition carefully because long-term ownership risk always depends on how the vehicle was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The redesign brings meaningful upgrades across the range, but the SV AWD with the Premium Package adds leatherette upholstery, heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate. The Platinum model adds semi-aniline quilted Nappa leather and a more upscale cabin.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. There is no alternate powertrain, so every Rogue uses the same basic setup.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is added on the SV and includes adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Most models use an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, hands-free text messaging, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The SV adds an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, more USB ports, and NissanConnect services, while the Platinum upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a 10.8-inch head-up display, and a Bose 10-speaker audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Rogue uses 8.9 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.1 L/100 km combined in front-wheel drive form, or 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway, and 8.3 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SV AWD with the Premium Package, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the redesigned Rogue’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the new platform, standard safety suite, and the 8-inch touchscreen, so it covers the essentials well.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like the Wi-Fi hotspot, extra USB ports, and NissanConnect services. If you want more convenience without jumping to the top end, this is the one to focus on.
• SV AWD with the Premium Package: Choose this if you want a more premium feel without going all the way to Platinum. The package adds leatherette upholstery, heated rear seats, manual rear sunshades, and a power liftgate.
• Platinum: This is the most feature-rich choice, with the 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, head-up display, Bose audio, and upscale leather. It suits you best if you want the most technology and comfort in the range.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while ProPILOT Assist arrives on the SV and adds highway-driving assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 562 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,458 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $21,462 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,309 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more competition if prices stay soft. If you buy now, you may be entering at a lower point in the cycle than owners who purchased a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Rogue and includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high beam assist, forward collision warning, and a driver alertness feature. ProPILOT Assist is standard on the SV and adds adaptive cruise control, while the Platinum’s Navi-link version can also assist with steering and slowing through curves.

One caveat is that earlier examples scored only three-star ratings in frontal crash testing before later versions were upgraded to four stars.

Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a new engine, new platform, and broader improvements across the range.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,681 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,462 CAD average.
• It still offers practical everyday usability and strong comfort.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,013 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,462 CAD average.
• It adds a new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and improved fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around choice if you want the redesigned Rogue’s broader improvements without paying more for the 2022. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2020 can still make sense; if you want the newer powertrain and better efficiency, the 2022 is the stronger upgrade path.
