CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Kia Sorento
Summary
With 76 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,621 CAD, 35.5% of 2021 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Kia Sorento 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Kia Sorento stands out because it marked a full redesign that gave the SUV a more aggressive, sporty look, deeper body contours, and a longer body that made room for a third row with enough space to comfortably accommodate adults. That extra space, combined with the Sorento’s family-friendly layout, is a major part of its appeal. It also arrived with a broader sense of polish than earlier versions, including a more modern cabin and a stronger emphasis on style.
For Canadian buyers, the 2021 Sorento offered a standard 191 hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed transmission on LX+ and LX Premium trims, while higher trims could be had with a 281 hp turbocharged upgrade. The base LX+ trim included an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated front seats, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, forward collision avoidance assist, and automatic high beams. LX Premium added features such as a heated and leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. That mix of equipment helps explain why the Sorento feels well equipped even before you move up the trim ladder.
There are a few trade-offs, though. The blind-spot view camera system was available, but it was described as more distracting than helpful, especially at night. Still, the 2021 Kia Sorento’s combination of space, safety equipment, and value makes it a compelling choice for shoppers who want a practical midsize SUV with a more distinctive design than many rivals.

Kia Sorento Xline. This car has many features and quicker than the previous V6 with better gas mileage. If you are looking at the 2.5T then I would recommend the AWD as you can actually use the power without spinning tires all the time.

How much does the 2021 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,399 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $24,399 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $28,800 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,456 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.26% |
Prices have softened 14.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 309 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2021 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — owners give it 5/5, which points to strong overall satisfaction. The review summary highlights comfort, safety features, and value for money, along with a spacious interior and advanced technology that help it stand out. For you, that makes sense if you want a family-friendly midsize SUV with a practical layout and a more distinctive design. With 35.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a dependable ownership experience, with owners praising the Sorento’s comfort, safety features, and value over time. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for regular family use, especially if you want a used SUV that feels well rounded rather than bare bones. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so service history matters.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sorento?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 309 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.26% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $24,399 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $24,399 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,456 CAD.
That price movement suggests sellers may need to be more competitive than they were a year ago. If you buy now, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal. A well-kept Sorento with the right equipment should still attract interest, but the softer market means you may not recover as much as a seller did previously.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
