CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Kia Sorento
Summary
With 23 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,758 CAD, 43.5% of 2021 Kia Sorento listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Kia Sorento 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Kia Sorento stands out because it marked a full redesign that gave the SUV a more aggressive, sporty look, deeper body contours, and a longer body that made room for a third row with enough space to comfortably accommodate adults. That extra space, combined with the Sorento’s family-friendly layout, is a major part of its appeal. It also arrived with a broader sense of polish than earlier versions, including a more modern cabin and a stronger emphasis on style.
For Canadian buyers, the 2021 Sorento offered a standard 191 hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed transmission on LX+ and LX Premium trims, while higher trims could be had with a 281 hp turbocharged upgrade. The base LX+ trim included an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated front seats, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, forward collision avoidance assist, and automatic high beams. LX Premium added features such as a heated and leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. That mix of equipment helps explain why the Sorento feels well equipped even before you move up the trim ladder.
There are a few trade-offs, though. The blind-spot view camera system was available, but it was described as more distracting than helpful, especially at night. Still, the 2021 Kia Sorento’s combination of space, safety equipment, and value makes it a compelling choice for shoppers who want a practical midsize SUV with a more distinctive design than many rivals.

Kia Sorento Xline. This car has many features and quicker than the previous V6 with better gas mileage. If you are looking at the 2.5T then I would recommend the AWD as you can actually use the power without spinning tires all the time.

Is the 2021 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — with a 5/5 user rating, the 2021 Kia Sorento comes across as a strong pick for you if you want a family SUV with broad appeal. Owners consistently praise its comfort, safety features, and value for money, and many also like the spacious interior and advanced technology. That lines up well if you want a midsize SUV that feels practical and well equipped for everyday family use. With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of attractive options to shop.
Is the 2021 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centred on comfort, safety, and value. That kind of response suggests you can count on it as a long-term family vehicle if you choose a well-kept example. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained properly over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sorento?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts on every listing.

If you find a listing below $24,709 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $24,709 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,215 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the softer current pricing means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped. Strong demand for a spacious, well-equipped family SUV can still support values, especially if your Sorento is in clean shape and has desirable features.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $28,148 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,709 CAD average.
- It adds hybrid options, including a plug-in hybrid.
The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the better value and a strong owner satisfaction record. If you are willing to spend more for newer powertrain choices, the 2022 is the better secondary path for you.
