Owners consistently praise its great looks, comfortable handling, and strong value for money. They also like the generous list of standard features and safety technologies, which fits the Seltos’ role as a practical small SUV with more substance than many rivals. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may feel underpowered or lightly equipped compared with what you might want, so condition and trim choice matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point and the only trim offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in Canada. It includes heated front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen, but the higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and EX Premium use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. The SX Turbo upgrades to a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
• Safety package: The LX includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect if it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. All trims but the base LX include collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.
• Infotainment: The LX and EX use an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. EX Premium and SX Turbo move up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and the SX Turbo adds a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine with front-wheel drive is rated at 8.2 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 7.7 combined. With AWD, it rises to 8.8 city, 7.6 highway, and 8.2 combined. The 1.6-litre AWD turbo is rated at 9.4 city, 7.9 highway, and 8.7 combined.

Which 2021 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value pick if you want the lowest entry price and still want useful standard equipment like heated front seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is the trim to consider if you want the essentials without stretching the budget.
• EX: This trim adds a sunroof, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, and 17-inch alloy wheels, making it a better everyday comfort choice than the LX. It is the sensible step up if you want a more polished cabin without jumping too far in price.
• EX Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, LED headlights and fog lamps, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting. If you want the strongest mix of features and price, this is the one to target.
• SX Turbo: Choose this if you want the more powerful turbocharged engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded audio system, and additional driver-assistance features. It is the right fit if performance and top-end equipment matter more than value.

The safety package is not standard on the base LX, so make sure the trim you choose includes the driver-assistance features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 295 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,305 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $19,503 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,504 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should stay realistic unless demand strengthens or the vehicle is especially well equipped and well maintained. Because the Seltos has broad appeal as a practical, value-focused small SUV, clean examples should still attract interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos safe?

The Kia Seltos earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, including four-star ratings for frontal crash and rollover performance and five-star ratings for side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Seltos comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child-seat anchor latches for the rear seats. In Canada, the base LX also includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect if it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. All trims but the base LX add collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.

One caveat is that the IIHS notes points were docked for the headlights on some trims and for ease of use in the LATCH system.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a high-quality cabin, refined driving dynamics, and strong space and utility.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,292 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,503 CAD average.
• It adds a strong ownership proposition with easy-to-use technology and a great warranty.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is still decent. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritise warranty-backed ownership confidence.
