Why it stands out
The redesigned 2021 Hyundai Elantra stands out by combining style, sophistication, space, and sportiness in a compact sedan package. It is presented as a car that goes well beyond what buyers might expect from its class, with the broader appeal of delivering performance, technology, and sophistication without requiring a luxury badge.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal with praise for its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating. Many owners also see it as strong value for the price and like its attractive features. The car is good but, a part of the front bumper is detached, both of the right rims are in severe condition, with one missing 6 inches of the rim, and the other severely scratched and dented and the tires don’t fit on the rims.

I love this car! Rides so smooth and has power too. Gets great gas mileage and feels like u are in a much more expensive car. The seats are comfortable and it truly is a very pleasant driving experience. This is the type of car that makes u want to go for a drive for no reason. Def would recommend this car to anyone!!

| Year-Round High | $20,417 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,420 CAD |

Prices have softened 12.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 558 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.5/5, and our experts give it 8.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating. They also see it as strong value for the price and appreciate its attractive features. In use, that makes the Elantra a sensible compact sedan if you want everyday comfort, efficiency, and a more upscale feel without moving into a luxury badge.
There are 30.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, which points to a market with some room for smart shoppers.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating. The same feedback also highlights strong value and attractive features, which usually matters to buyers looking for a car they can count on over time.
Hyundai backs the car with a 5-year/100,000 km limited warranty and five years of free roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is whether the previous owner kept up with maintenance and avoided neglect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model is the main feature step-down to watch for, since every 2021 Elantra except the base model gets SmartSense, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher trims also bring a nicer, higher-tech cabin, and the Ultimate grade is singled out for its more upscale interior presentation.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a manual transmission on the base model or a CVT elsewhere. The CVT is described as one of the better examples in the compact-car class, while the hybrid uses a 1.6-litre Atkinson-cycle engine, an electric motor, and a 1.32-kWh battery.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on every version except the base model, while cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist are also available.
- Infotainment: Most models get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Ultimate trim can be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrumentation, plus navigation and ambient cabin lighting, but wireless smartphone integration is lost with that larger screen.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates entry-level models at 7.8 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission and 6.4 L/100 km with the CVT, while upper grades use 6.7 L/100 km combined. The hybrid is rated at 4.4 L/100 km combined.
Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, and Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra safety and convenience features that appear higher up the range.
- Preferred: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more of the features and equipment that make the Elantra feel modern and well rounded.
- N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier personality, with the turbocharged engine, sport suspension tune, quicker steering, larger brakes, and a more engaging driving feel.
- Ultimate: Pick this if you want the most upscale version, with the richer cabin presentation and the available larger infotainment and digital display setup.
Every trim above the base model gets SmartSense, and blind-spot warning plus rear cross-traffic warning are standard on every version except the base model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 558 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $17,796 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,950 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,420 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The current range still shows healthy demand, though, and that can support resale stability if the car is well maintained and properly equipped.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2021 Elantra except the base model is equipped with SmartSense, Hyundai’s suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. That package includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are also standard on every version except the base model, and Safe Exit Warning adds another layer of everyday protection.
Higher-level safety upgrades include cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. That said, the base model misses some of the standard safety equipment found on the rest of the lineup, so it is worth checking trim carefully.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings style, sophistication, space, and sportiness together in a compact sedan.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $14,987 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,950 CAD average.
- It adds value-enhancing updates, improved fuel efficiency, and newly packaged safety features.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,073 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,950 CAD average.
- It builds on the redesign with stylish design, a roomy cabin, excellent fuel economy, and strong standard safety tech.
The bottom line: If you want the most compelling mix of design, efficiency, and features, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want a newer model-year alternative and are comfortable paying more.
