How much does the 2021 Honda CR-V cost?

Prices have softened 12.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 742 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda CR-V earns a 4.79/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the safety features, spacious and comfortable interior, and excellent fuel economy. That lines up well with the CR-V’s practical, family-friendly role as a compact SUV that is easy to live with and broadly appealing. It is especially well suited if you want a proven, everyday crossover rather than something flashy or sporty.

There are 28.6% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Reviewers describe it as reliable and highly rated, and they point to the kind of ownership experience you can count on over time. The CR-V’s reputation for long-term satisfaction is reinforced by its dependable, familiar character and the fact that many owners feel confident sticking with Honda vehicles.

Honda also makes the CR-V easy to live with by standardising its safety technology across the range, which can reduce the risk of feeling shortchanged on a used example. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding the right trim and condition for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the least equipped version, and the gap is most noticeable in safety convenience because blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard there. Higher trims add more upscale interior touches such as wood panels and more chrome, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want a more premium feel.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and a CVT. It is tuned for smooth, steady acceleration rather than excitement, and AWD is standard on all trims except the LX, where it is an extra-cost option.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on the LX.
• Infotainment: Every CR-V gets a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SMS text messaging functions. Higher trims add features such as SiriusXM, HD radio, a 300-watt audio system, satellite navigation with voice recognition, and a wireless phone charger on the Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 8.3 L/100 km city, 7.0 highway, and 7.7 combined. AWD models are rated at 8.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 highway, and 8.1 combined.

Which 2021 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda CR-V is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is the one most likely to feel stripped down because blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard here, and AWD costs extra. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point and are comfortable with the basics.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the missing blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert while keeping the CR-V’s core strengths intact. If you want the smartest balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on.
• EX: This trim builds on the Sport with more comfort and convenience equipment, while keeping the same powertrain and safety foundation. It suits you if you want a more rounded daily driver without jumping to the top end.
• EX-L: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds a more premium feel and brings in SiriusXM. It is a good choice if interior comfort matters more to you than chasing the highest-tech features.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the 300-watt audio system, satellite navigation with voice recognition, and a wireless phone charger. Choose it if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, but the LX misses blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2021 Honda CR-V earned both a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and an IIHS Top Safety Pick award. It did not get the Top Safety Pick+ rating because of lower scores in the headlight evaluation and the updated side crash test. It also received an Acceptable rating for the ease of use of its LATCH child safety seat anchoring system.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on the LX, but it becomes standard on the Sport and remains standard as you move up the range.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety, broad appeal, and standard Honda Sensing across the range.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,265 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,174 CAD average.
• It is easy to live with and capable.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of safety, owner satisfaction, and market availability. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still delivers the CR-V’s familiar practicality.
