Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It is positioned as a heavy-duty pickup that leans more upscale than many rivals, with a broader range of trim levels and upscale options than the related Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. That makes it a fit if you want serious truck capability without giving up comfort or a more premium feel. With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 Sierra 2500HD offers a strong equipment list, including Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Wi-Fi hotspot accessibility through the GMC infotainment system, and higher trims can add more comfort and convenience features. At the same time, used fourth-generation Sierra 2500HD models are known for issues including check engine lights tied to diesel particulate filters or emissions sensors, sluggish infotainment responses, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate faults, and faulty trailer brake controllers. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth checking carefully before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

It looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 78 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $56,283 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $57,840 CAD sits slightly below last year's $59,774 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests future sellers may face a market that is still adjusting, especially if inventory stays available and buyers remain selective. The Sierra 2500HD’s premium positioning can help it stand out, but resale will still depend on condition, trim, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold buyer interest better than trucks with visible wear or unresolved mechanical concerns.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $60,756 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $57,840 CAD average.
• It broadens appeal by blending heavy-duty capability with more work-and-play features.

The bottom line: The 2021 makes sense if you want a premium-feeling heavy-duty truck and you can find a well-priced example. If your priority is value, the 2021 is the better starting point; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2022 is the next year to compare.
