CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 91 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,479 CAD, 26.4% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out because Ford used the Mustang name on its first mass-market electric vehicle, and it is also the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name. It is the first production Mustang model with more than two doors, which gives it a very different character from the nameplate’s traditional formula. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, signalling that this was meant to be a serious step into the EV market rather than a limited experiment.
What makes the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E especially distinctive is the way it blends style and sportiness with the practicality of a small electric crossover. Ford expected that emphasis to help it sell more EVs, and it also put the Mach-E into direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y. Buyers had to choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition. The test vehicle described here was a sold-out First Edition model, identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences such as red brake calipers, and it had the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive.
Owners have responded positively to the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E’s stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. Some have also raised concerns about charging options and software issues, so while the Mach-E has broad appeal, it is not without a few drawbacks.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. That lines up well with its role as a small electric crossover that blends sportiness with everyday practicality, while also giving you a distinct alternative to more conventional EV choices. Good and great deals make up 27.5% of listings, which adds some shopping flexibility.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with particular praise for the car’s user-friendly features and overall day-to-day ease. The expert evaluation also notes that the adaptive cruise control system kept pace with traffic reliably, and its automated lane centring was among the smoothest experienced in a mainstream vehicle.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about whether software behaviour and charging convenience have been consistent for the previous owner.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is defined by a minimalist layout, a massive infotainment touchscreen, and decent-quality interior materials, but you should note that leather upholstery is not offered in this price range. Even the top trims use synthetic ActiveX material, and the First Edition adds unique cosmetic touches rather than major hardware changes.
- Powertrain: You can choose rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the car’s output varies significantly by configuration. The base RWD model makes 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, while the AWD setup in the test vehicle delivers 346 hp and 428 lb-ft; the GT Performance Edition is the most potent with two electric motors and 480 hp.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is standard on higher trim levels, and the Select trim needs a package for some of these features.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses Sync 4 with a 15.5-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and over-the-air software update capability. Premium, GT, and First Edition models also get a nine-speaker B&O sound system.
- Range & charging: The Standard Range battery pack is rated at 370 km with RWD and 340 km with AWD, while the Extended Range pack reaches 491 km with RWD and 435 km with AWD. DC fast charging is standard at up to 150 kW, and Ford says 10% to 80% charging takes 45 minutes.
- Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, ask how the car was typically charged, and confirm whether it spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Mach-E experience at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you want the styling, EV packaging, and standard driver-assist features without paying for the higher-end equipment.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the Select with a more complete feature set and is the trim most closely matched by the First Edition test vehicle. If you want the sweet spot between equipment and price, this is the one to focus on.
- California Route 1: This trim is aimed at buyers who want more standard capability and a longer-range, road-trip-friendly setup. It also gets Active Drive Assist as standard.
- GT Performance Edition: This is the performance-focused choice, with the strongest output and the quickest acceleration in the lineup. Buy this only if you specifically want the top-end performance character.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, while the Select needs a package for it.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.
- Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 91 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $27,003 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $29,414 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,206 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well equipped or lightly used. At the same time, the Mach-E’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and distinctive positioning should help it remain attractive to shoppers looking for a stylish EV crossover.
If prices continue to normalise, resale values may stay under pressure in the near term, but well-kept examples should still benefit from steady demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is also standard on higher trim levels.
One caveat is that the IIHS result includes point deductions for certain headlights and LATCH ease of use, so you should pay attention to lighting equipment and child-seat installation details when comparing trims.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.74% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
