CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
overall

Summary
With 85 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,413 CAD, 22.4% of 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Es for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
100.0% of 2021 Mustang Mach-E models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out because Ford used the Mustang name on its first mass-market electric vehicle, and it is also the first electric vehicle to wear the Mustang name. It is the first production Mustang model with more than two doors, which gives it a very different character from the nameplate’s traditional formula. Ford also positioned it as its first electric car built on a dedicated platform and aimed at a mass audience, signalling that this was meant to be a serious step into the EV market rather than a limited experiment.
What makes the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E especially distinctive is the way it blends style and sportiness with the practicality of a small electric crossover. Ford expected that emphasis to help it sell more EVs, and it also put the Mach-E into direct competition with the similarly sized Tesla Model Y. Buyers had to choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Standard Range and Extended Range battery packs, and four trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition. The test vehicle described here was a sold-out First Edition model, identical to the Premium trim aside from cosmetic differences such as red brake calipers, and it had the Extended Range battery pack and all-wheel drive.
Owners have responded positively to the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E’s stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. Some have also raised concerns about charging options and software issues, so while the Mach-E has broad appeal, it is not without a few drawbacks.

I bought a Mustang Mach-E premium with all-wheel drive and love it. It’s spectacular to drive; very responsive and of course quiet. The stationary sunroof offsets the medium size cabin and the other amenities make it a pleasure for drivers and The oversized touch screen is wonderful. At less than most Tesla’s the Mach E is a good value.

Absolutely Love This Car! Not our first EV or our first Ford but it’s definitely our favorite of both. Love the aggressive look of the Mach-E compared to other EV’s. Many people I’ve bumped into don’t expect it to be electric. So far it has been incredibly efficient averaging 4-4.9 mi/kWh on the Premium X RWD. The seats are super comfortable and the interior build quality is nice. We are using it as a whole family car and plenty of space for all of us and our 3 kids. Activated the Ford WiFi on day 1 and it handles data of all kids iPads during cruising. My car already has the PAAK update and PAAK works flawlessly. It’s been super hot lately pushing 110-120 degrees and the AC handles the cabin perfectly, the IR reflective coating on the glass roof allows no heat through it keeping the cabin comfortable. Definitely recommend the Mach-E to anyone.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, impressive performance, advanced technology, comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. That lines up well with its role as a small electric crossover that blends sportiness with everyday practicality, especially if you want something more distinctive than a conventional EV. With 23.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its comfortable cabin and user-friendly features. The expert drive notes that the basic adaptive cruise control system kept pace with traffic reliably, and its automated lane centring was one of the smoothest in a mainstream-brand vehicle. Ford also includes a cable for 240-volt home charging, which can make regular ownership simpler if you can charge at home.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical durability and more about making sure software behaviour, charging habits, and battery condition have been well cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is minimalist and tech-focused, but the base model does not include heated front seats or a heated steering wheel as standard in Canada. Higher trims add a 360-degree camera system, and the First Edition stands out mainly with cosmetic touches such as red brake calipers, brushed aluminium pedals, and unique kickplates.
- Powertrain: You can choose rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the test vehicle’s lower-level AWD setup delivered 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. The most potent setup is the GT Performance Edition with two electric motors, 480 hp, and 634 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, and part of a package on the Select.
- Infotainment: The Mach-E uses a 15.5-inch touchscreen with a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and over-the-air software update capability. Premium, GT, and First Edition models get a nine-speaker B&O by Bang & Olufsen audio system.
- Range & charging: The Extended Range battery pack is rated at 491 km with rear-wheel drive and 435 km with all-wheel drive. DC fast charging peaks at 150 kW, and Ford says 10% to 80% charging takes 45 minutes. The usable battery capacity is not stated.
- Battery health: As with any used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, review how often the car has relied on DC fast charging versus home charging, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in 4 trim levels: Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point, and it makes the Mach-E’s core EV experience accessible with rear-wheel drive and the Standard Range battery pack. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting price, but you should be aware that some comfort and convenience features are not standard here.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the richer equipment mix that suits the Mach-E’s upscale, tech-heavy personality. It also shares the powertrain setup with the First Edition test vehicle, making it a strong balance of performance and everyday usability.
- California Route 1: This trim is a good fit if you want a longer-range, more road-trip-friendly setup and standard Active Drive Assist. It’s aimed at buyers who want more capability without jumping all the way to the performance-focused model.
- GT Performance Edition: Choose this if you want the quickest and most powerful Mach-E, with two motors and the highest output in the lineup. It’s the enthusiast pick, but it sits at the top of the price range.
Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, and available as part of a package on the Select.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 87 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.05% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $27,003 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E's resale value?
The current average of $29,559 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,132 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale values if supply stays healthy. For a seller, that means condition, trim choice, and equipment level matter more when you want to stand out. Well-equipped examples with desirable features and strong presentation should still attract attention, but you may need to price competitively to move the car quickly.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E safe?
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, a reverse sensing system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, traffic-sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree camera system is also standard on higher trim levels. Active Drive Assist is standard on the California Route 1, Premium, and First Edition trim levels, and part of a package on the Select.
The main caveat is that the IIHS result was affected by certain headlights and LATCH ease of use, so you should pay attention to trim and equipment differences when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Ford positioned this year as its first mass-market EV on a dedicated platform, with the Mustang name applied to a very different kind of vehicle.
