Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport arrived with plenty of anticipation, and the test-drive impression was that it lived up to much of the hype. Ford’s compact two-row crossover SUV came across as lively, capable, and attractive, with a personality that suits both everyday driving and weekend adventures. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is not just trying to be practical, but also to feel a little more adventurous than the average small SUV.
Owners’ feedback broadly supports that character, with many praising its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability. At the same time, there are some clear trade-offs. Several drivers have criticised the interior quality as feeling cheap, and the small back seat has also drawn complaints. The Auto-Stop feature can be annoying for some, and pricing is another concern for buyers who see cheaper rivals offering similar features.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

The expert drive notes also describe it as a capable, drama-free companion, which supports the idea that it should be dependable for regular use.
Ford’s available maintenance and ownership features help reduce some day-to-day hassle, and the standard all-wheel drive and terrain management system add confidence in varied conditions. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright capability and more about whether you can live with the interior quality and other compromises owners mention.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. You’ll want to compare the cabin materials, seating upgrades, and wheel/tire setups carefully, since the lower trims are more basic and the upper trims bring a more polished feel.
- Powertrain: The 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder in the Badlands makes 245 hp and 275 lb-ft. The 1.5-litre can sound strained when pushed hard, while the 2.0-litre suits the Bronco Sport’s character better.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available SiriusXM capability. FordPass Connect with a subscription-based 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and the available Bang & Olufsen system is offered on Outer Banks and above.
- Fuel efficiency: The available information highlights good fuel economy, but it does not provide a specific L/100 km figure.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 4 trim levels: Bronco Sport Base, Bronco Sport Big Bend, Bronco Sport Outer Banks, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands.
Here's the short version:
- Bronco Sport Base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Bronco Sport formula with standard all-wheel drive, the Ford Co-Pilot360 safety suite, and the 8-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the most basic in comfort and convenience.
- Bronco Sport Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more rounded mix of equipment without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. It keeps the 1.5-litre engine but adds more everyday appeal, making it a smart middle ground if you want a better-equipped Bronco Sport without paying for the top-end hardware.
- Bronco Sport Outer Banks: This trim leans more toward comfort and style, with upgraded interior trim, available heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel equipment, and the option for the Bang & Olufsen audio system. It suits you if you care more about a nicer cabin than maximum trail hardware.
- Ford Bronco Sport Badlands: This is the most capable version, with the 2.0-litre engine, advanced 4x4 hardware, twin-clutch rear-drive unit, all-terrain tyres, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates. Choose it if off-road ability is a priority and you want the most rugged setup in the lineup.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, so that safety and convenience upgrade is easiest to get once you move up from the entry model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 332 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.98% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,693 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $22,718 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,040 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Bronco Sport more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means you may need to be realistic about how much value the model can recover if market conditions stay soft.
The good news is that the Bronco Sport still has a clear identity, and vehicles with strong enthusiast appeal often hold attention better than more generic crossovers. If demand stays steady among buyers who want a rugged compact SUV, that should help support resale value over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, along with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring, evasive steering assist, voice-activated touchscreen navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It arrived with strong first impressions as a lively, capable, and attractive compact two-row crossover that works well for both commuting and off-pavement adventures.
The bottom line: If you want the Bronco Sport’s original mix of rugged style, everyday usability, and strong owner appeal, the 2021 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market closely, because the softer pricing and decent inventory can make this year a good value play.
