CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Ford Bronco Sport
overall

Summary
With 15 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,720 CAD, 13.3% of 2021 Ford Bronco Sport listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport 4.15 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport arrived with plenty of anticipation, and the test-drive impression was that it largely lived up to the hype. Ford’s compact two-row crossover SUV came across as lively, capable, and attractive, with a personality that suits both everyday driving and weekend adventures. That combination helps it stand out in a crowded segment, especially for buyers who want something with a more rugged feel than the usual compact crossover.
Owner feedback broadly reinforces that appeal. Many drivers praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, which makes it a favourite for adventurous use. At the same time, some owners point to drawbacks such as interior quality that can feel cheap, a small back seat, and an Auto-Stop feature that can be annoying. Pricing is another concern for some, particularly when compared with cheaper rivals that offer similar features.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time, especially because of its dependable character, good fuel economy, and ability to handle adventurous driving. The expert testing also describes it as a capable companion for on- and off-pavement use, which supports the idea that it can be counted on for varied driving. If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright capability and more about whether the interior quality and convenience compromises will bother you over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The cabin moves from cloth seats to leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats, and the cargo area can gain more durable flooring and seat protection as you move up.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder in Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks trims, while Badlands uses a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder. The 2.0-litre setup is described as a better match for the Bronco Sport’s character, while the 1.5-litre can sound strained when pushed.
- Safety package: Every trim gets Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available SiriusXM capability. FordPass Connect with a subscription-based 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and the available Bang & Olufsen audio system is offered on Outer Banks and above.
- Fuel efficiency: Owners like its good fuel economy, and the expert testing also points to the 1.5-litre engine as the more efficiency-minded choice for most buyers.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 4 trim levels: Bronco Sport Base, Bronco Sport Big Bend, Bronco Sport Outer Banks, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands.
Here's the short version:
- Bronco Sport Base: This is the entry point, but it still gets the core Bronco Sport formula, including the standard safety suite and all-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable giving up some convenience features.
- Bronco Sport Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without jumping too far in price. It keeps the 1.5-litre powertrain but adds more comfort and convenience than Base.
- Bronco Sport Outer Banks: This trim leans more toward comfort and style, with more upscale interior touches and available premium audio. It suits you if you want the Bronco Sport’s look and capability with a more polished feel.
- Ford Bronco Sport Badlands: This is the most capability-focused trim, with the 2.0-litre engine, advanced 4x4 hardware, all-terrain tyres, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates. It is the one to choose if off-road use matters most.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 346 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.57% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,701 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $22,729 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,245 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Bronco Sport more attractive to used buyers today but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher. For a future seller, the key will be whether demand stays strong for its adventurous image and practical use case.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring, evasive steering assist, touchscreen navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It launched with strong first impressions, combining everyday practicality with off-pavement capability.
The bottom line: If you want the Bronco Sport’s original formula and you find a well-priced example, the 2021 is a sensible buy. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market closely and focus on listings near the low end of the current range.
