What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Lower trims use cloth upholstery and the smaller 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more premium materials, a 10.1-inch screen, and more upscale cabin finishes.
• Powertrain: You can find 3.6-litre V6, 5.7-litre HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, and supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 options, all paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions and standard all-wheel drive in Canada.
• Safety package: The Durango comes standard with a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control, while features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning depend on trim or package.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch screen with Uconnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected services, and two simultaneous Bluetooth connections.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel efficiency is a common concern among owners, especially if you’re comparing it with more economical three-row SUVs.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point if you want the Durango’s V6 power, standard all-wheel drive, and the basic 8.4-inch Uconnect setup without paying for extra equipment.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the V6 and adds more everyday appeal, plus it can be equipped with the rear-seat entertainment system.
• Citadel: Choose this if you want a more premium-feeling Durango with the V6 standard and the option to upgrade to the 5.7-litre V8.
• R/T: This is the pick if you want the 5.7-litre V8 standard, SRT Performance Pages, and the Tow N Go Package for stronger towing-focused capability.
• SRT 392: This is the performance choice, with the 392 HEMI V8 and the most track-oriented hardware in the lineup.

The safety content also makes clear that many active safety features are not standard across the range, so check carefully for the exact package on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.87% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,795 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $33,795 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,239 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Durango has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If demand stays steady, a used example purchased near the current average may have less room to fall than one bought when prices were higher. Stronger trims with desirable equipment should also be easier to move later than a bare-bones example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango falls short compared with its rivals, earning a Marginal result for a small overlap frontal impact on the driver’s side from IIHS and a five-star side crash-test rating plus a four-star front crash and rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment is limited to a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning. The main caveat is that many of these features are not standard, so you need to verify the exact equipment on any used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 update brought revised styling and a new Uconnect 5 infotainment system.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,930 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,795 CAD average.
• It offers three-row practicality with muscle-car styling cues.

The bottom line: If you want the newer infotainment and refreshed 2021 updates, this is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you can live with an older-feeling cabin, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
