What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LS and LT focus on value, while Activ and RS add a more distinctive look and standard all-wheel drive. The base setup also has a simpler infotainment system and fewer available safety upgrades than higher trims.
• Powertrain: LS and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Other versions use a turbo 1.3-litre 3-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft, standard AWD, and a 9-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.
• Infotainment: The standard system has a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth pairing for two phones, SiriusXM, Teen Driver, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The upgraded system adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected vehicle personalisation.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive recorded 8.8 L/100 km in mixed driving for the Activ AWD, versus an official combined rating of 7.6 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the value play if you want the Trailblazer’s core style, standard safety tech, and basic infotainment without paying for extras. It suits you best if affordability matters most.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the Trailblazer’s practical strengths while giving you a more rounded ownership experience than the LS.
• Activ: Choose this if you want the more rugged appearance, standard AWD, and the stronger 1.3-litre drivetrain. It fits you best if style and all-weather confidence matter more than outright value.
• RS: Pick this if you want the sportier look and the same standard AWD and 1.3-litre powertrain, with a more appearance-focused personality.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

It looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 112 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.51% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,284 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $19,411 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,974 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The Trailblazer’s value story is strongest when buyers prioritise style, technology, and practicality over performance, so resale demand should remain tied to those strengths. If you keep the vehicle in clean condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2021 Trailblazer earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. The Trailblazer also includes 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification service. Depending on trim level, you can also get blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.

There are a couple of caveats to keep in mind: the IIHS noted slight deductions for headlights on some grades and for LATCH connector ease of use, and the expert drive found the lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist system to be inconsistent.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings strong technology, standard safety equipment, and a value-focused entry point into Chevrolet’s SUV lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,777 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,411 CAD average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel and new paint colours.

The bottom line: If you want the better price and stronger deal availability, the 2021 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a few convenience updates, the 2022 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2021.
