Is the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.9/5 user-rated SUV with an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its features, comfort, and driving dynamics, and they also highlight the heated seats, safety technology, and spaciousness. That lines up well with the Trailblazer’s use case as an affordable, stylish small SUV with approachable technology and broad everyday appeal.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: the transmission can be irritating, advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is not a strong point. Even so, the Trailblazer’s value proposition remains compelling, and 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for comfort, features, and driving dynamics that suggest you can count on it for everyday use. The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing it as a practical, easy-to-live-with small SUV with strong value.

Chevy backs it with a three-year, 60,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the transmission behaviour and fuel consumption.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS is the entry point, while the LT adds more flexibility, and the Activ and RS bring distinct styling and equipment. The Activ leans rugged with a model-specific front fascia, standard roof rails, and chunky 17-inch all-terrain tyres, while the RS gets blacked-out trim, a mesh grille, dual exhaust outlets, and an optional panoramic sunroof. If you want the best-value balance of equipment and price, the LT is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, or an optional 1.3-litre turbo-three with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft. Front-wheel drive models use a CVT, while all-wheel drive models use a nine-speed automatic. The AWD setup is selectable, and the expert notes that it is not as seamless as automatic systems in some rivals.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are optional. Some advanced safety features are not standard, so check carefully if they matter to you.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Bose audio system, rear-seat USB ports, wireless phone charging, and a 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: NRCan ratings are 8.0 L/100 km city, 7.6 L/100 km highway, and 7.8 L/100 km combined for 1.2-litre FWD models; 8.1 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway, and 7.7 L/100 km combined for 1.3-litre FWD models; and 8.9 L/100 km city, 7.8 L/100 km highway, and 8.4 L/100 km combined for 1.3-litre AWD models.

Which 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with the standard 1.2-litre engine and front-wheel drive. It gives you the Trailblazer’s core style and practicality without stretching the budget.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it opens the door to the 1.3-litre engine and all-wheel drive, while staying below the more expensive Activ and RS. If you want the broadest mix of flexibility and price, start here.
• Activ: Choose this if you like the more rugged look and want the model-specific styling, roof rails, and gravel-road-tuned dampers. It suits you best if appearance and a slightly more adventurous character matter more than outright efficiency.
• RS: Pick this if you want the sportier appearance package with blacked-out trim, a mesh grille, and dual exhaust outlets. It is the style-forward choice rather than the value pick.

The safety package is strong overall, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 300 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.06% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,893 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $23,893 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,170 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale values may face some pressure if the market stays soft. For a seller, the current trend suggests you may need to price competitively to stand out. Strong demand for well-equipped, well-kept examples should still help the best listings hold attention.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer was named a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with five-star ratings in the frontal and side crash-test categories and four-star ratings in rollover crash testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Teen Driver. Blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are optional.

One caveat is that the standard halogen headlights were rated only “Average” by IIHS, while the optional LED headlights scored “Good.”

Should I buy a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and strong value for money.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,777 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $23,893 CAD average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel and extra paint choices.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $25,997 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $23,893 CAD average.
• It improves passenger space, cargo capacity, style, and ease of use.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-around choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a look; if you want a newer model with more space-focused appeal, the 2024 is the better alternative.
