Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — the Trailblazer earns 4.33/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty design, good gas economy, and spacious interior with great standard features. That lines up well with its role as an affordable entry-point SUV for younger and more cost-conscious buyers, especially if you want style and everyday practicality in a small crossover.

The market also shows 31.4% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a decent-to-drive crossover SUV, which supports the idea that it should be a sensible long-term companion for the right buyer.

That said, some owners reported severe water leakage issues in some units, so a used example deserves a careful inspection for signs of past or ongoing moisture intrusion before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS and LT are the more basic versions, while the Activ and RS add a more distinctive look and a richer feature set. The base setup is still well equipped, but you should pay close attention to which convenience and appearance features are included before assuming a lower-priced example has everything you want.
• Powertrain: The LS and LT use a turbocharged 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while the other versions use a turbo 1.3-litre 3-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft. The stronger engine is paired with standard AWD and a 9-speed automatic, and it is the better choice if you want more relaxed everyday performance.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. You also get 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification. Depending on trim level, you can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assistance, a high-definition reversing camera, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth pairing for two smartphones, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Teen Driver, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An upgraded system available on Activ and RS adds an 8-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, and cloud-connected vehicle personalisation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Trailblazer Activ AWD averaged 8.8 L/100 km in testing, compared with an official combined rating of 7.6 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Trailblazer’s style, standard safety tech, and core infotainment without paying for extras. It uses the smaller turbo 1.2-litre engine and is the value play if your priority is keeping the purchase price down.
• LT: This is the trim to consider if you want a bit more equipment while staying close to the Trailblazer’s affordable mission. It still uses the 1.2-litre engine, so it is best for buyers who want a practical daily driver rather than maximum power.
• Activ: This is the best-value trim if you want the stronger turbo 1.3-litre engine, standard AWD, and the more rugged appearance package. It also unlocks the upgraded infotainment system as an option, making it a strong fit if you want the Trailblazer’s personality and capability without going all the way to the top.
• RS: This is the sportier-looking choice, and it shares the stronger 1.3-litre engine and standard AWD setup. Choose it if you want the most distinctive street-focused appearance and are willing to pay more for it.

Safety-wise, the Trailblazer’s standard Chevy Safety Assist suite is a major plus, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assistance, the high-definition camera, and adaptive cruise control depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 102 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,385 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $19,483 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,463 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Trailblazer has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current market implies you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if similar examples are still listed in decent numbers.

The good news is that the Trailblazer’s mix of style, technology, and practicality should help it remain appealing to budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The 2021 Trailblazer earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision alert with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a safe following distance indicator. You also get 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, and subscription-based automatic collision notification.

There are a few caveats to keep in mind. IIHS docked it slight points for the headlights on some grades and for ease of use on the LATCH connectors for child seats. In testing, the forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping systems also showed some inconsistency, so you should not assume every driver-assistance feature will feel perfectly polished in daily use.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings strong technology, standard safety equipment, and a value-focused entry point into Chevrolet’s SUV lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $22,037 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,483 CAD average.
• It adds a heated steering wheel and new paint choices.

The bottom line: If you want the better buy on price, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because it already offers strong tech, good owner satisfaction, and a softer market. If you value a few extra convenience touches and do not mind paying more, the 2022 is the better fit.
