Why it stands out
The 2020 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that blends safety, technology, and a clean Scandinavian design. Volvo’s second-generation XC60 was built on the same Scalable Product Architecture platform as the S90, V90, and XC90, and it came with standard all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission, leather upholstery, heated front seats, “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It was also offered in Canada in Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription trims, with available upgrades such as a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather seats, a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system, air suspension, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and steer assist.
For 2020, Volvo added an available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new Polestar Engineered model. The XC60’s safety story is a major part of its appeal: the second generation added steer assist to the City Safety system, and Oncoming Lane Mitigation and blind spot monitoring also used steer assist to help reduce collision risk. Buyers looking at this model year get a well-equipped luxury SUV with strong safety credentials and a broad feature set, though the XC60 is not without drawbacks, including jerky acceleration and braking and tight rear-seat legroom.

Volvos have proven themselves as a bonafide leader in the art of safety and innovation in the automobile industry. They have proven over the years through design and again safety that the design quality from the past boxy (common) design to the uniqueness and quality that others follow.

This car is exceptional. It’s clean, peppy, and is riddled with a ton of technology and features. The seats are amazingly comfortable. I would compare it to an Augo Q3, BMW X3 or an Acura. RDX.

Is the 2020 Volvo XC60 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.5/5 user rating, which supports its appeal as a premium compact crossover. It stands out for its safety focus, clean Scandinavian design, standard all-wheel drive, and a well-equipped cabin with features like heated front seats, a nine-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. For you, that means a strong fit if you want a luxury SUV that balances comfort, technology, and safety. 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Volvo XC60 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2020 XC60’s reliability appeal comes from its safety-first engineering, standard all-wheel drive, and broadly proven luxury-SUV formula. Its feature set is substantial, and Volvo’s emphasis on collision-avoidance technology adds confidence for everyday use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium vehicle with lots of technology can be more expensive to keep in top shape over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volvo XC60?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 94 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.49% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $28,193 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Volvo XC60's resale value?
The current average of $28,821 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,314 CAD.
That price movement suggests the XC60 has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer market than they would have a year ago. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, especially if they’re priced competitively.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.49% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,289 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,821 CAD average.
- It adds a stronger sense of value and efficiency.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better starting point if you want a lower entry price and a broad set of luxury and safety features. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer-year alternative, the 2021 is worth a look; if price matters most, the 2020 gives you the stronger value case.
