CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Summary
With 50 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,355 CAD, 26.0% of 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI stands out because it blends the GTI’s long-running hot-hatch formula with a practical hatchback body and a strong performance focus. The model is known for its sharper dynamics than the standard Golf, and its distinctive red trim, plaid seats, and dual exhaust help separate it from the regular car. For buyers who want something sporty without giving up everyday usability, that combination is a big part of the appeal.
For 2020, the seventh-generation Golf GTI still used a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine rated at 210 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission remained standard, with a six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox available. This generation also brought a new chassis and firmer suspension, plus more space in the rear seats and cargo area thanks to its added length and width. In 2016, it received a new infotainment system with a back-up camera and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, while optional adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and emergency brake assist were added through the Technology Package.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The GTI’s technology can be unintuitive, prices can be high, and it is smaller than most SUVs. Even so, the 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI remains appealing because it delivers the classic hot-hatch mix of performance, handling, and everyday practicality in a package that still feels distinctive.

I love everything about this car. The driving experience is excellent and I highly recommend getting a standard transmission for the full fun of driving:) The interior is laid out perfectly and its room enough for my long legs. Never letting this car go!
