How much does the 2020 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 5.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 188 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns 4.3/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers commonly praise its reliability, performance, and design, and many also value its practicality and strong off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: the cabin can feel cheap, and some shoppers may miss features like heated seats and navigation.

For you, that means the Tacoma makes the most sense if you want a rugged midsize pickup that prioritises utility and capability over polish. It also sits in a market where 23.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. Drivers repeatedly describe it as reliable and dependable, with a reputation for trouble-free ownership and strong long-term value. Toyota’s test-drive notes also point to dependable off-road features and a truck that buyers can count on for capability.

The Tacoma’s durability-focused character should appeal if you plan to keep your truck for years, though used buyers should still watch for wear tied to hard use and off-road driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma’s trims vary in equipment and appearance, and the base setup is more straightforward than upscale. Higher trims add more visual flair and capability, while the lower trims are more about essentials.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the 3.5-litre V6 is standard, with 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is standard, and a six-speed manual is available on select trims if you want more control.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring is optional.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, while an 8-inch system is available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 13.0 L/100 km in the city, 10.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 3 trim levels: SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point if you want the Tacoma’s core capability and standard safety tech without paying for extras. It suits you if you care most about getting into the truck at the lowest price.
• TRD Sport: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying several grand below the top end. It’s the trim to consider if you want a more balanced mix of features and price.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most off-road-focused setup and the most distinctive hardware. It brings the strongest trail-oriented character, but it also comes with the highest price.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, so even the lower trims include the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 23.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 188 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,089 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $40,303 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,426 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also shows that the Tacoma still commands strong market interest. If you own one and plan to sell later, the model’s reputation for reliability and capability should continue to support demand. The current price trend suggests values have eased, but not collapsed, which is usually a sign of steady long-term appeal rather than weak resale.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2020 Tacoma earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for both front passengers in frontal tests, four-star ratings for the front seats in side barrier and pole tests, and five-star ratings for rear passengers.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring is optional. The main caveat is that the Tacoma’s IIHS result includes an Acceptable rating for the front passenger in the small overlap test.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 23.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Expert notes highlight its easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $43,197 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $40,303 CAD average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone automatic climate control.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly fresher setup, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
