Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, performance, and design, and many also value its practicality and strong off-road capability. The Tacoma’s straightforward layout and useful equipment fit its role as a rugged, capability-first pickup.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin materials feel cheap, and the base engine is underwhelming. It is best suited to you if you want toughness and utility more than refinement or a polished on-road feel.

Toyota’s standard maintenance coverage adds some ownership reassurance, and the truck’s proven mechanical formula should appeal if you want a used pickup you can count on. Even so, you should still watch for wear on a truck that may have been used hard off-road or for towing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

The current average of $40,143 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,672 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Tacoma has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it also means there is less immediate upward pressure on used values than there was a year ago.

Even so, the Tacoma’s reputation for reliability and capability should continue to support demand. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain it well, you should still have a truck that attracts steady interest later.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

Choose the 2020 if:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings useful design and technology updates while keeping the Tacoma’s rugged, capability-first character.

• At $43,187 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $40,143 CAD average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone automatic climate control.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want the better value and can live with its rough-edged personality. If you want a slightly newer truck and do not mind paying more, the 2021 is the cleaner choice.
