The current average of $20,743 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,126 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more attractive entry point today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays subdued. If you plan to sell later, the current discount could work in your favour by reducing your upfront cost. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 25.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,401 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,743 CAD average.
• It adds a more appealing, comfortable, and fun-to-drive personality.

The bottom line:
The 2020 is the better value if you want the lower average price and a decent share of deal-priced listings. If you can stretch your budget and want a slightly more polished-feeling hatchback, the 2021 is the stronger secondary path.
