Used 2020 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearEdmonton, AB

How much does the 2020 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 7.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 146 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.85/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and they also like its comfort, safety features, and off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: it is not especially strong on value for money, and the interior can feel dated compared with newer rivals.

Given its purpose-built, capability-first character, it makes the most sense if you want a tough SUV that prioritises durability and real-world utility over polish. The market still shows healthy interest, with 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and it also suggests the 4Runner is a vehicle many drivers feel they can count on over time. The expert assessment also highlights the engine’s longevity as a strength, reinforcing its dependability for long-term use.

If you are shopping used, the main ownership risk is that a hard-working SUV can hide wear from off-road or heavy-duty use, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is based on the SR5, with TRD Off-Road, Venture, TRD Pro, Limited, and Nightshade packages. Lower trims come with cloth, while the Limited adds leather upholstery and a more comfort-focused feel. The Venture adds 17-inch TRD wheels plus standard roof rack crossbars and side steps, while the Nightshade and Venture packages lean into a blacked-out look.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 4-litre V6 with a five-speed automatic. It is tuned for durability and steady progress rather than quick, efficient commuting, and the body-on-frame layout supports real off-road use.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. All models also get eight standard airbags, but the reactive lane-departure alert is less advanced than a true lane-keeping system.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth is included, and some packages add a JBL stereo and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 5 trim levels: SR5, TRD Off-Road, Venture, TRD Pro, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the starting point, and it gives you the core 4Runner formula without the extra cost of the more specialised packages. It is the trim to consider if you want the lowest entry price and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better choice if you want a more trail-ready setup without jumping all the way to the top end. It is the most obvious value pick for shoppers who care more about capability than luxury touches.
• Venture: This trim adds a stealthier look, 17-inch TRD wheels, roof rack crossbars, and side steps. It suits you if you want off-road flavour and extra utility with a more distinctive appearance.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialised choice for buyers who want the most aggressive off-road character in the lineup. It is the one to choose if you are shopping for maximum ruggedness rather than everyday comfort.
• Limited: This is the comfort-leaning choice, with leather upholstery and a more upscale presentation. It makes the most sense if you want the 4Runner’s toughness but prefer a more premium-feeling cabin.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but the lane-departure system is reactive rather than a full lane-keeping assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it is worth shopping carefully and comparing listings.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 146 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $42,507 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $43,881 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,634 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests buyers have a bit more leverage today than they did a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim desirability than it would be in a tighter market.

The 4Runner still has strong appeal because shoppers value its rugged image, utility, and reputation for durability. Well-kept examples should continue to attract interest, especially if they are equipped with sought-after off-road or comfort-oriented packages.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns Good scores from IIHS in all crash tests except the small overlap front: driver-side test, where it scored Marginal. It also earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with three-star ratings in the rollover test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. The 4Runner also comes with eight standard airbags.

The main caveat is the Marginal IIHS result in the small overlap front driver-side test, and the SUV’s high centre of gravity means its safety systems do not fully erase its truck-like dynamics.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Toyota Safety Sense P and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,889 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $43,881 CAD average.
• It keeps the same rugged appeal while leaning harder into reliability and resale value.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction remains strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year example, the 2021 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2020.
