Used 2020 Subaru Outback for Sale nearVancouver, BC

How much does the 2020 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 15.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 217 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Outback earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, spacious cabin, and strong safety feel, and many also like the smooth ride and all-weather confidence. In use, it suits you well if you want a practical family vehicle with broad usefulness and standard all-wheel drive. The main trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the underwhelming base engine, so it makes the most sense if you value space and value over quick tech or brisk acceleration. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still decent market flexibility for shoppers.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners describing it as a vehicle they feel good about keeping for the long term. The expert evaluation also highlights Subaru’s active all-wheel-drive system and low-centre-of-gravity layout as traits that support consistent, confidence-inspiring operation. The cost-effectiveness commentary also suggests strong ownership value, which can help reduce long-term regret if you buy a well-kept example.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core hardware and more about making sure the vehicle’s tech and driver-assist systems still work as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Convenience trim is noticeably more spartan than higher trims, with dual 7-inch screens instead of the larger display and fewer comfort and convenience features. Higher trims add equipment such as a sunroof, power liftgate, leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre engine in the lower trims and a 2.4-litre turbocharged engine in XT models. The base engine is adequate for daily use, while the turbo is better if you want stronger passing power, towing confidence, or more relaxed highway performance.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: Higher trims get an 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base trim uses dual 7-inch screens. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth are included, but the system’s lag is a known drawback.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-litre engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outback formula with heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the most basic-feeling version.
• Touring: This adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, a power liftgate, reverse auto braking, and blind-spot monitoring. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the features most people will notice every day without jumping too far in price.
• Limited: This trim brings leather upholstery, a memory system for the driver, an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo, navigation, and a heated steering wheel. Choose it if you want a more upscale cabin and live in a colder climate.
• Premier: This is the more luxurious non-turbo choice, with Nappa leather and ventilated front seats. It suits you if comfort matters most and you want the richest-feeling standard Outback experience.
• Outdoor XT: This is the most distinctive trim, pairing the stronger turbo engine with heated rear seats, a front-view camera, hill-descent control, a more aggressive version of X-Mode, and unique exterior cladding. It is the pick if you want the most capability-focused version.
• Limited XT: This combines the Limited’s equipment with the turbo engine, making it a strong choice if you want extra power without giving up the upscale features.
• Premier XT: This is the top-end version, pairing the Premier’s luxury features with the turbo engine for the most powerful and most premium Outback in the lineup.

The safety package is strong across the range, but blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 217 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.43% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,223 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,341 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,598 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well-equipped versions with desirable features should remain easier to move than bare-bones examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2020 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert, and lane-keep assist. Subaru also makes all-wheel drive standard, which adds confidence in poor weather and slippery conditions. A key caveat is that the optical driver-assist system can be disrupted by snow, mud, fog, or direct sunlight, and DriverFocus can be overly intrusive in normal driving.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 update adds a larger touchscreen, fresh safety tech, and new engines.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,466 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,341 CAD average.
• It leans harder into everyday usefulness, reliability, and resale strength.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year perspective, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who prioritise long-term practicality over upfront savings.

How does the 2020 Subaru Outback compare to the 2020 Toyota RAV4?

Our experts score the 2020 Subaru Outback 7.7/10 and the 2020 Toyota RAV4 8.7/10.

The Outback gives you standard all-wheel drive, a roomier wagon-like shape, and stronger value in the used market. The RAV4 counters with a more powerful base engine, better fuel economy, and a higher expert score. If you want the more affordable and distinctive choice, the Outback makes sense; if you want the stronger all-rounder, the RAV4 has the edge.
