How much does the 2020 Kia Soul cost?

Prices have softened 16.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 188 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Kia Soul earns a 4.67/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, stylish design, and easy-to-use modern features. The review summary also points to strong value for the price, good gas mileage, and safety features as recurring positives.

The trade-offs are familiar ones: some owners want more engine power, and a few note comfort quirks such as the driver’s seat not tilting. That fits the Soul’s role as a practical, personality-filled small vehicle for everyday use rather than a performance-focused choice.

The Soul’s unusual middle ground between a small hatchback and a subcompact SUV makes it appealing if you want utility without losing character. Good and great deals account for 29.3% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, good gas mileage, and overall value. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for everyday use if it has been maintained properly.

The expert assessment reinforces that impression by describing the Soul as refined, quiet under acceleration, and well balanced in normal driving. The cost-effectiveness commentary also frames it as a useful hatchback that delivers a lot of practicality without unnecessary complexity.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright weakness and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for consistently, especially given the model’s mixed reputation for comfort and power.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Soul?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is pretty basic, but it still gives you a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, and body-colour heated side mirrors. The EX adds alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, and a much fuller driver-assistance package, while EX Limited and GT-Line Limited bring the most equipment. If you want the best value, the EX is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a 2-litre, 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. The setup is described as surprisingly effective, with decent acceleration, refined behaviour, and a Sport button plus manual mode for a more traditional feel.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The EX adds forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path detection, while the top trims add adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and pedestrian detection.
• Infotainment: LX, EX, and EX+ trims get a 7-inch screen, while higher trims get a 10.25-inch display. All trims include Kia’s UVO system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and the larger screen is a major upgrade if your budget allows.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2-litre engine and CVT return fuel consumption of 8.6 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.9 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the observed figure was 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Kia Soul trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Soul is offered in 7 trim levels: LX, EX, EX+, EX Premium, EX Limited, GT-Line Premium, and GT-Line Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the most affordable way into the Soul, and it already gives you the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors. It makes sense if you want the Soul’s space and style at the lowest price, but you’ll miss out on the more useful safety and convenience upgrades.
• EX: This is the best-value trim. It adds alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, and the key driver-assistance features that make the Soul easier to live with every day, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, lane-change assist, and forward-collision warning and avoidance.
• EX+: This trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, and cloth and synthetic leather seats. It’s a nicer-feeling step up if you want more visual polish and a bit more equipment.
• EX Premium: This trim brings the larger 10.25-inch infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and 18-inch wheels. It suits you if you want the Soul to feel more upscale inside.
• EX Limited: This is the most feature-rich non-sport trim, with rain-sensing wipers, advanced forward collision avoidance assist, a head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio, adaptive cruise control, leather seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, and heated outboard rear seats.
• GT-Line Premium: This trim builds on EX Premium with sport bumpers and side sill accents, roof rails, and a sport steering wheel. Choose it if you want the more expressive look without moving all the way to the top trim.
• GT-Line Limited: This is the top trim and adds the same sport-oriented appearance and equipment upgrades on top of the EX Limited content.

The safety-package step-up starts at the EX trim, so that’s the one most shoppers should target first.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Soul?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 188 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.01% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,873 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $15,165 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,057 CAD.

That price drop means future sellers may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you’re entering at a lower average price point, which can help reduce the gap between purchase price and eventual resale value.

The Soul’s broad appeal should still help it hold buyer interest, especially because it combines practicality, distinctive styling, and strong owner satisfaction. Even so, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has the equipment shoppers want.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul safe?

The 2020 Kia Soul is a Top Safety Pick and earns four-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The EX trim adds forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path detection, while the top trims add adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and pedestrian detection.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you need to move up from the base trim to get the fuller driver-assistance package.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out in the lineup for refined driving dynamics, a lower starting price than most competitors, and form and function delivered in equal quantities.

The bottom line: The 2020 Soul is a strong pick if you want the model’s distinctive design, roomy cabin, and easy-to-use tech at a softer used-car price. If you’re price-sensitive, the current market gives you enough inventory and enough deal activity to shop patiently, but the EX trim is still the one that best balances value and equipment.
