Drivers consistently praise its great value, smooth ride, and abundance of features. The comfortable interior and safety equipment also come up often, and many owners compare it favourably with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 106 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.41% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,697 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $18,785 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,471 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit how much value it holds if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. Strong demand can still support resale, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,929 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,785 CAD average.
• It adds a more performance-focused N Line option for drivers who want extra punch.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the primary path because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction. If you are price-sensitive and want to maximise features per dollar, the 2020 is still the safer bet; if you want a more performance-oriented feel and can spend a bit more, the 2021 is worth a look.
