How much does the 2020 Ford Ranger cost?

Prices have softened 11.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 184 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for used shoppers.

Is the 2020 Ford Ranger a good car?

Yes — 4.79/5 from owners, which points to strong overall satisfaction. The Ranger earns an expert rating of 8/10.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, comfortable ride, and high-quality features. The Ranger also gets credit for sufficient power and an enjoyable driving experience, which fits a truck that can handle weekend chores, towing, and hauling without feeling purely utilitarian.

The trade-offs are clear: the cabin materials feel cheap, and the back seat can feel tight for taller passengers. The overview also frames it as a midsize pickup that prioritises capability and tech over everyday comfort.

With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as reliable, dependable, and a truck they can count on for everyday use. The owner summary also points to a trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with strong value and a satisfying driving experience reinforcing that impression.

On the expert side, the Ranger’s powertrain is presented as straightforward and durable in use, with a single turbocharged engine and a 10-speed automatic. That simplicity can be a plus for long-term ownership because there are fewer powertrain choices to sort through.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a truck with solid capability can still carry wear from hard use, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Ranger?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is basic, with vinyl floors, manual air conditioning, steel wheels, and a simpler cabin. The XLT is the best-value choice because it adds 17-inch aluminium wheels, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, Ford SYNC 3, and Ford CoPilot 360. The Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, and more upscale trim.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and standard 4WD in Canada. It is punchy at low speeds and on the highway, and it can tow up to 3,401 kilograms when properly equipped.
• Safety package: Ford CoPilot360 is optional on the XL and standard on higher trims. It includes automatic headlights, automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The XLT can also be equipped with a Technology Package that adds forward parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and navigation.
• Infotainment: The XL gets a basic setup with Bluetooth, a USB port, and FordPass Connect. The XLT upgrades to SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available voice-activated navigation. FordPass Connect includes remote lock/unlock, remote start, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 11.8 L/100 km in the city, 9.8 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the least expensive way into the Ranger, but it feels stripped down. You get the core truck hardware and basic connectivity, yet the cabin and convenience features are sparse. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry price and can live without much equipment.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim. It adds the equipment most shoppers will notice every day, including SYNC 3, the 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and Ford CoPilot 360. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to target.
• Lariat: This is the most upscale choice, with leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, ambient lighting, and available premium audio. It suits you if you want a more comfortable and polished Ranger rather than the most affordable one.

Ford CoPilot360 is optional on the XL and standard on the XLT and Lariat.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Ranger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 184 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,201 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $30,201 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,254 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Ranger has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to move later if you buy at the right number. A softer market today can also mean future resale depends more on condition, mileage, and trim choice than on broad market momentum.

Because the Ranger still has strong owner satisfaction and a solid reputation for capability, well-kept examples should remain appealing to shoppers. Higher-demand trims and clean service records are likely to hold up better than rougher, heavily used trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Ranger safe?

The 2020 Ford Ranger earns Good scores in most IIHS crash tests, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in most crash tests, four-star ratings in front passenger side testing, and three-star ratings in rollover testing.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot360 is the standard driver-assistance suite on most trims, and it includes automatic headlights, automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. On the XL, that suite is optional rather than standard.

One caveat is that the Ranger’s pedestrian-sensing tech was rated lower by IIHS than its best crash results, and advanced safety features are not standard on the base trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its strong capability, useful tech, and balanced midsize-truck formula.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $27,286 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $30,201 CAD average.
• It returned the Ranger to North America with a strong value proposition and a simpler powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current used buy, the 2020 is the safer default. If your priority is saving money and you can accept a simpler, earlier version of the same truck, the 2019 is worth a look.
