overall

Summary
With 174 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,647 CAD, 27.6% of 2020 Ford Rangers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Ford Ranger 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Ford Ranger stands out as a midsize pickup that leans into capability and technology rather than trying to feel like a full-size work truck. It has decent fuel efficiency for a pickup truck, and its optional infotainment system is terrific. It also brings the towing and hauling ability needed for a boat trailer or a truckload of home improvement gear, which makes it appealing to buyers who want a versatile truck for everyday life and weekend projects.
Its strengths are balanced by some clear compromises. The Ranger’s stylish design and powerful engine help it make a strong first impression, but its cabin materials feel cheap and advanced safety features are not standard. That mix means the 2020 Ford Ranger can be a good fit for shoppers who value capability, value, and an enjoyable driving experience, while those prioritising interior refinement or a more generous standard safety package may find it less convincing.

The truck is extremely comfortable and stable on the road. Amenities are more than adequate and the quality exceeds expectations. Power is more than sufficient and although I was concerned about the 10 speed transmission, it operates flawlessly. Very pleased with this truck.

Reviewed a 2020 Ford Ranger on Oct 28, 2023
I had a Lariat. It was comfortable for me but not for people over 6 feet tall..It had every feature I wanted except Fords trailer backing system. It was a good value compared to the 150. It handled my 7200 pound boat and trailer on Tennessees hilly roads easily. Unfortunately I crashed it and it was totaled. It protected me in the cabin without serious injuries. I plan to replace it with a 2024 Ranger.

Prices have softened 10.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 176 listings available, which suggests you have a modest amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Ford Ranger a good car?
Yes — 4.79/5 from owners, and the Ranger also earns an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.
Drivers consistently praise its great value, enjoyable driving experience, comfortable ride, sufficient power, and high-quality features. The Ranger’s use-case is clear: it suits you if you want a midsize pickup that can handle towing, hauling, and everyday driving without trying to feel like a full-size work truck.
The trade-offs are just as consistent: the cabin materials feel cheap, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the market still shows 29.5% of listings as good or great deals, which points to decent shopping opportunity.
Is the 2020 Ford Ranger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers’ feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with many owners highlighting its enjoyable driving experience, comfortable ride, and high-quality features. That kind of feedback matters for used buyers because it suggests the Ranger can be a truck you feel confident living with over time.
The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the Ranger as a balanced truck that does what is asked of it without falling below average in any major area. Ford also includes a year of subscription-based FordPass Connect features on the XL, which adds some ownership convenience early on.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright dependability and more about whether the truck’s compromises — especially cabin refinement and feature content — fit your expectations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Ranger?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XL is the most basic version, with vinyl floors, manual air conditioning, cloth upholstery, and eight-way manually adjustable front seats. The XLT adds a much more complete everyday setup, including 17-inch aluminium wheels, body-colour bumpers, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and Ford SYNC 3, so it is the best-value trim for most shoppers. The Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, ambient cabin lighting, and more upscale exterior details.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and standard 4WD with low-range gearing in Canada. The engine is punchy at low speeds and on the highway, and the Ranger can tow up to 3,401 kilograms when properly equipped.
- Safety package: Ford CoPilot360 is optional on the XL and standard on other grades. It includes automatic headlights, automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. The XLT can also be equipped with a Technology Package that adds forward parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and navigation.
- Infotainment: The XL gets an AM/FM stereo with four speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and FordPass Connect with remote lock/unlock, remote start, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The XLT upgrades to SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available voice-activated navigation. The Lariat can be fitted with a B&O sound system by Bang & Olufsen with ten speakers.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates consumption at 11.8 L/100 km in the city, 9.8 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.9 L/100 km combined.
Which 2020 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the most affordable way into the Ranger, but it is also the most stripped-back. You get the core truck hardware, basic connectivity, and FordPass Connect, yet the cabin and convenience features are sparse. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without much comfort or tech.
- XLT: This is the trim CarGurus recommends for most buyers because it adds the features that make the Ranger feel properly equipped, including SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and more exterior convenience features. It is the best-value choice if you want a well-rounded used Ranger.
- Lariat: This is the upscale choice, with leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, push-button start, ambient lighting, and a more premium look and feel. It suits you if you want the most comfort and convenience the Ranger offers.
Ford’s CoPilot360 suite is optional on the XL and standard on the XLT and Lariat, so that trim step matters if you want the full safety package without hunting for a specific optioned truck.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Ranger?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 176 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.76% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $30,317 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford Ranger's resale value?
The current average of $30,555 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,239 CAD.
That softer pricing trend suggests the Ranger has become a bit easier to buy than it was a year ago, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you pay close to the current average, you may have less room to absorb depreciation later, but the gap from last year also shows the market has already adjusted downward.
The Ranger’s broad appeal as a capable midsize pickup should continue to support demand, especially for well-equipped examples with the right trim and condition. Strong owner satisfaction ratings also help keep interest steady when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford Ranger safe?
The Ranger earns Good scores in the IIHS driver’s-side small-overlap, moderate-overlap, side, and roof-strength crash tests, and it earns an Acceptable score in the passenger-side small-overlap test. It also earns a Superior score for vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention technology and Advanced for pedestrian-sensing tech. The Ranger earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in most crash tests, four-star ratings in front passenger side testing, and three-star ratings in rollover crash testing.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s CoPilot360 suite is standard on all but the XL, where it is optional. The suite includes automatic headlights, automatic emergency braking, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. On the XLT, an available Technology Package adds forward parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and navigation.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard on the base XL, so you need to check equipment carefully if safety tech matters to you.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.76% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 combines strong towing ability with useful tech and a well-rounded midsize-truck package.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $28,506 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $30,555 CAD average.
- It returned the Ranger to North America with a simple single-engine, single-transmission formula.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2020 is the safer pick because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid expert ratings, and a market that has softened from last year. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the better value play, especially if you are comfortable with its simpler equipment and want to save on purchase price.
