How much does the 2020 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 16.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 529 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare trims and prices.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Ford Escape earns a 4.42/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth driving experience, numerous features, safety technology, acceleration, and comfort. The overview also points to a high-tech, handsome, and surprisingly athletic compact crossover that feels more polished than basic transportation.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space, some tightness for taller occupants, a noisy engine under acceleration, and mixed feedback on the gearshift design and wireless charging compatibility. In practice, that means you’re getting a well-rounded small SUV that leans modern and refined, but you should still check whether the cabin and cargo area suit your needs.

Good and great deals account for 26.5% of listings, which is a decent sign of market choice.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for smooth driving, comfort, and safety technology. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for regular commuting and family duty.

The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the Escape as a polished, well-rounded small SUV with strong everyday drivability and a refined feel. Ford’s standard safety and driver-assistance equipment adds to the sense that this is built to be a trouble-free ownership choice.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is less about outright reliability and more about whether the cabin packaging and feature set match your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Escape?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with 17-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, a 4.2-inch instrument-panel screen, manually adjustable front seats, and a 4.2-inch centre infotainment screen, while the SE adds 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, automatic climate control, heated front seats, satellite radio, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and an 8-inch Sync 3 system. The SEL adds fog lamps, black roof racks, 18-inch machined aluminum wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, synthetic upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and memory for the driver’s seat. The Titanium adds 19-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, acoustic-laminated glass, a dual-panel moonroof, premium audio, leather seating, and a 6-way power front passenger seat. CarGurus recommends the SE trim because it brings the best mix of equipment and value.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers four engine options, including a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and hybrid setups built around a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder. The 3-cylinder and non-plug-in hybrid can be had with FWD or AWD, while the turbo engine comes standard with AWD. The turbo setup is the strongest performer, while the hybrid is the most efficient.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The base trim already gets a full suite of driver-assistance features, so you do not need to move up the range just to get core safety tech.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 4.2-inch screen, while the SE upgrades to an 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The tech package is one of the clearest reasons to avoid the base model if you want a more modern cabin experience.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid returns 5.4 L/100 km city, 6.3 highway, and 5.8 combined with FWD, or 5.5 city, 6.4 highway, and 5.9 combined with AWD. The 1.5-litre turbo engine returns 8.6/7.1/7.9 combined, or 8.9/7.6/8.3 with AWD. The 2.0-litre turbo with AWD returns 10.4/7.5/9.1.

Which 2020 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Escape is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it feels stripped down compared with the rest of the range because it uses the small 4.2-inch screen and basic interior equipment. It does, however, still include FordPass Connect and a full suite of driver-assistance features, so it is not bare-bones on safety.
• SE: This is the best-value trim. It adds the 8-inch Sync 3 touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic climate control, heated front seats, satellite radio, and a power driver’s seat, which makes it the sweet spot for most used buyers.
• SEL: Choose this if you want more convenience and comfort features, including the hands-free power liftgate, heated steering wheel, memory seating, and upgraded exterior details. It makes sense if you want a more premium feel without going all the way to Titanium.
• Titanium: This is the most upscale version, with the richest materials, premium audio, a dual-panel moonroof, and the most feature-rich cabin. It suits you if you want the most luxurious Escape experience and are willing to pay for it.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the range, so even the lower trims get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 529 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,538 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $17,538 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,121 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings unless your vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean.

The good news is that the Escape’s broad appeal, strong feature content, and solid owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain it well, those traits can help protect resale value better than a more basic compact SUV.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape safe?

The 2020 Ford Escape earned the best overall score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in all phases of testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Escape also comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, and a tire-pressure-monitoring system.

That standard safety package is a major strength, especially because it is included even on the base trim. If safety is a top priority, the Escape gives you a strong starting point without forcing you into a higher trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It stands out this year as a redesigned, high-tech, handsome, and surprisingly athletic compact crossover with standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this Escape generation, the 2020 model is the one to focus on because it combines strong owner satisfaction, broad trim choice, and a modern feature set. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you can still shop carefully and target the better-priced listings, but the 2020 is the better pick when you want the most complete package.
