Is the 2020 Ford Edge a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Edge earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the comfort, spaciousness, modern features, and solid build quality, and many say it works especially well for tall individuals and families. The Edge’s roomy interior and easy-to-use technology also come through as recurring strengths.

The trade-offs are its uninspired styling and underwhelming base engine. In practical terms, that means you’re buying a straightforward two-row SUV that prioritises convenience and everyday usability over flash or excitement.

Is the 2020 Ford Edge reliable?

The expert assessment reinforces that impression by describing the Edge as a sensible, well-equipped SUV with solid construction and a straightforward ownership experience. Ford’s standard equipment also helps reduce the need to add extras after purchase.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners reported technical issues, especially with the transmission and certain tech features.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Edge?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE comes standard with SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, heated front seats and side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, 18-inch aluminium wheels, remote keyless entry, and Ford’s SYNC 3 system. It also includes the Ford Co-Pilot360 safety suite, so the base trim is already well equipped.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Edge ST uses a 2.7-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower and standard AWD.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is optional on the SEL and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic capability plus active lane centring.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and two smart-charging USB ports. The system is easy to use, and you do not need to pay extra for navigation if you prefer to use your phone.
• Fuel efficiency: The most fuel-efficient version is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder with front-wheel drive, at 11.2 L/100 km city, 8.1 L/100 km highway, and 9.8 L/100 km combined. With AWD, it returns 11.4 L/100 km city, 8.3 L/100 km highway, and 10.0 L/100 km combined. The ST returns 12.5 L/100 km city, 9.2 L/100 km highway, and 11.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Ford Edge trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the Edge’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You still get SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the full Co-Pilot360 safety suite.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds LED fog lights, synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a premium audio system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. It also unlocks the optional Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package.
• Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, with genuine leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels, a 10-way power front passenger seat, driver’s seat memory, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a wall-style power outlet.
• ST: Pick this if you want the performance variant. It adds the 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6, sportier styling, and the most powerful driving experience in the lineup.

The SEL is the best-value trim because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades without jumping all the way to the pricier Titanium or ST. The Co-Pilot360 safety suite remains standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Edge?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 368 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,606 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Edge's resale value?

The current average of $19,606 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,979 CAD.

That drop suggests the Edge has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price it competitively later. For a future seller, the current trend means you may need to be realistic on asking price if you want to attract attention quickly.

At the same time, the Edge’s broad appeal as a roomy, well-equipped SUV helps support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Edge safe?

The 2020 Ford Edge received a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It also earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you move up to the SEL, you can add Co-Pilot360 Assist+ for adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and active lane centring.

The main caveat is the headlight performance noted by IIHS, where ratings vary by trim level.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Edge or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech with easy-to-use SYNC 3 and a roomy, practical cabin.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,496 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,606 CAD average.
• It offers a roomy cabin and useful cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, current-year version with strong safety and tech, the 2020 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want the Edge’s roomy, practical formula, the 2019 is the value-oriented alternative.
