CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD
Summary
With 50 currently listed for sale and an average price of $62,818 CAD, 34.0% of 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty pickup that leans hard into capability and presence. Its aggressive new styling gives it a huge, bluff front end, and there is no mistaking it for anything else on the road. That visual toughness is backed up by serious numbers: maximum towing reaches 16,300 kilograms, and payload capacity can climb to 3,300 kilograms. For buyers who need a truck that feels purpose-built for hard work, that combination is the core appeal.
It also offers a strong mix of powertrain choice and towing-focused hardware. Chevrolet gives it two V8 engines: a 6.6-litre gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and an optional Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Both use an Allison ten-speed automatic transmission, and the diesel can be fitted with integrated Power Take-Off for running large accessories. The truck’s trailering tech is another highlight, with detailed camera views in the infotainment system, and Chevrolet also includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
There are trade-offs, though. The cabin has been criticised as too basic compared with some rivals, and the truck’s driving dynamics and fuel economy lag behind Ford and Ram. It is also not cheap, with pricing that starts high even for basic versions. Still, for buyers who value towing strength, multiple cab and bed combinations, available dual-rear-wheel stability, and a long list of work-ready features, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is a distinctive and highly capable choice.

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $63,270 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $55,510 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $63,874 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $60,590 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | +4.42% |
Prices are up 4.42% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 53 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating suggests you should feel confident considering it if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner approval. That kind of score points to a model that has generally met expectations for buyers who need serious capability. The market also shows 35.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
For used buyers, that kind of owner feedback can reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises, though you should still focus on maintenance history and how the truck was used.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market: there is enough inventory to shop around, but the best-priced trucks may still move quickly.
- Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 53 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.42% year-over-year.
If you find a listing below $55,510 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?
The current average of $63,270 CAD sits slightly above last year's $60,590 CAD.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which can support resale confidence if you decide to sell later. With prices already near the top of the year-round range, future upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market movement. Strong owner satisfaction can also help keep demand steady when it is time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.42% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 is a sensible choice if you want a used Silverado 3500HD with strong owner approval and a market that still shows some deal opportunities. If you are price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on listings at the lower end of the range, but the 2020 remains the better path if you value proven demand and a solid satisfaction profile.
