CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Audi Q7
overall

Summary
With 12 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,498 CAD, 33.3% of 2020 Audi Q7 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Audi Q7 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Audi Q7 stands out as a refreshed midsize luxury SUV that gets a thorough update to its styling, interior, powertrain and technology. Those changes help keep it competitive against the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, and the result is an SUV that feels aimed squarely at buyers who want a premium family vehicle with a more modern presentation. It also has a reputation for being fun to drive, with a powerful engine adding to its appeal.
That said, the 2020 Audi Q7 is not without compromises. Its third row is cramped, and cargo space is limited, so it is better suited to buyers who value refinement and driving enjoyment over maximum practicality. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for its luxurious features, smooth and quiet ride, comfort and safety features, while some owners also feel it is overpriced and that storage options are inadequate.

In a very short amount of time with this car, it has shown me what a good luxury SUV should and can feel like. Drive is fantastic, interior is no fuss and well put together, outside of the lack of useful "pocket/hidden" storage, it is absolutely a delight to own.

Excellent safety features and a solid vehicle for the ride. You get what you pay for .My prior one was 3 years old and as solid as when it was new. Storage in the front center counsel could be better for women who have purses but otherwise fit/finish and quality shine through. Extended Lexus SUV and Volvo C 90 are close competitors but hate the Lexus front end ( aesthetics ) and Volvo is a box.

I have owned 3 of the Q7s and enjoy the comfort, driveability, and is great in the snow. Other models are the Lexus, which is boring; Honda Pilot not as luxurious and the Lincoln Navigator which is a tank.

How much does the 2020 Audi Q7 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $34,659 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $33,410 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $40,241 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $40,115 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.60% |
Prices have softened 13.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 78 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Audi Q7 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth and quiet ride, comfort, and strong safety features. The overview also points to a premium family SUV that feels more modern after its refresh and remains enjoyable to drive.
The main trade-offs are its cramped third row and limited cargo space, so you should weigh refinement and driving enjoyment against everyday practicality. It also carries a premium price tag, which some owners call out.
With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the Q7’s comfort, safety features, and the kind of long-term confidence that matters when you’re buying used. The expert evaluation also highlights the mild-hybrid system working transparently and the drivetrain feeling well sorted in everyday use.
Audi’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright reliability and more about whether the premium features and complex technology have been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Audi Q7?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Q7 comes in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trims. The test vehicle’s Technik upgrade added a more upscale, high-tech cabin with standard 21-inch wheels, multi-colour ambient lighting, a full-colour head-up display, and dual-pane acoustic side window glass. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
- Powertrain: The 55 TFSI uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and Quattro all-wheel drive. It also uses a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to help conserve fuel.
- Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package includes Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centring assistance. The safety content also notes that the headlight assessment is a weak point.
- Infotainment: The MMI Touch Response setup uses a 10.1-inch upper touchscreen and an 8.6-inch lower touchscreen, plus natural voice recognition, handwriting recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, and Audi Connect subscription services.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Q7 should use 12.0 litres per 100 kilometres combined, while the road test returned 11.2 L/100 km and 13.0 L/100 km on a local fuel-testing loop.
Which 2020 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Komfort, Progressiv, Technik.
Here's the short version:
- Komfort: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the Q7’s core luxury-SUV experience without stretching too far on price. It gives you the basics of the refreshed Q7, but it is the trim most likely to feel light on the richer equipment that makes this model stand out.
- Progressiv: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it should give you a stronger balance of equipment and price than the base model. If you want a more complete luxury feel without jumping all the way to the top trim, this is the one to focus on.
- Technik: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale presentation and the most technology. It adds the head-up display, ambient lighting, acoustic glass, adaptive air suspension, and the richer cabin experience described in the test vehicle.
The safety package is available through the Driver Assistance Package, and the headlight assessment remains a notable caveat.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Audi Q7?
The market looks moderately favourable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 78 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,410 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $34,659 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,115 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Q7 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment. If you buy at today’s average, there is less room for appreciation and more emphasis on holding value through condition, mileage, and service history. The current price range also suggests that well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than higher-priced listings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 safe?
The Audi Q7 earns the highest IIHS ratings overall, but its headlight assessment is rated poor, which keeps it from earning a Top Safety Pick+ nod.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi’s Driver Assistance Package includes Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centring assistance. Those features add meaningful convenience and protection, but the expert review also notes that the traffic-sign recognition and lane-assist behaviour can be frustrating in practice.
The poor headlight result is the main safety caveat you should keep in mind when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2020 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model year brings a thorough refresh to the styling, interior, powertrain, and technology.
The bottom line: The 2020 Q7 is the right pick if you want the refreshed design, stronger tech, and the more powerful V6 in a premium family SUV. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2020 stands out as the more modern and better-rounded choice.
