Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 a good car?

You’ll see recurring praise for its comfortable driving experience, spacious interior, and strong safety focus. It also fits well if you want a refined three-row SUV that balances family practicality with a more upscale feel. Is the 2020 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in everyday use, with many drivers describing it as comfortable and trouble-free over time. That said, you should still watch for the ownership costs that can come with a European luxury SUV, especially if you plan to keep it for the long term. For used buyers, the main risk is less about day-to-day appeal and more about making sure the specific example has been maintained properly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volvo XC90?

The market looks moderate, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 75 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,406 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $30,412 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,616 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the XC90 more attractive to buyers today but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you buy now, you may be entering at a more reasonable price point than owners did a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,226 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,412 CAD average.
• It adds a few newly standard tech features.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the better primary choice if you want the stronger value proposition and are comfortable shopping the used market carefully. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 gives you a lower entry point while still delivering the XC90’s core appeal; if you want to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the secondary path.
