What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the most basic version, with steel 17-inch wheels, heated front seats, LED headlights, automatic high beams, and privacy-tinted windows. The XLE adds alloy wheels, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, fog lights, a power moonroof, push-button start, a power liftgate, and dual-zone climate control. The Trail adds a more rugged look and equipment such as unique 19-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, a split-bar grille, black fender cladding, upgraded roof rails, and orange interior accents. The Limited is the most upscale, with chrome-finished wheels, passive entry, ambient lighting, heated rear seats, and navigation.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims, with all-wheel drive available, while the Trail and Limited use torque-vectoring AWD.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, adaptive cruise control, and Lane-Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
• Infotainment: The LE has a 7-inch touchscreen with Entune 3.0, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and a USB port. The XLE adds five USB ports. The Trail gets an upgraded 7-inch instrument display and an 8-inch infotainment screen, while the Limited offers an optional JBL premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 8.8 L/100 km in the city, 6.7 on the highway, and 7.8 combined. The AWD test vehicle returned 9.2 L/100 km city and 7.1 highway, with an observed combined figure of 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2019 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you a strong safety and convenience package, including heated front seats, LED headlights, Apple CarPlay, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. If you want the lowest entry point without giving up the essentials, this is the trim to start with.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the equipment many buyers will actually notice every day, including alloy wheels, a power driver’s seat, a moonroof, push-button start, a power liftgate, and dual-zone climate control. It is the trim that best balances price and comfort.
• Trail: Choose this if you want the more rugged look and the extra capability that comes with torque-vectoring AWD, plus the unique exterior and interior touches. It suits you best if you value the RAV4’s off-road-leaning character.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with chrome-finished wheels, passive entry, ambient lighting, heated rear seats, and navigation. It makes sense if you want the most premium-feeling RAV4 in this lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so even the lower trims get the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 475 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.65% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,547 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $26,564 CAD sits slightly below last year's $29,078 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. A softer used market often means future sellers need to price more competitively to attract attention. Even so, a model with broad appeal and strong safety content can still hold buyer interest better than a less popular alternative.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds bold styling, new tech, and a bit of off-road ability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,858 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $26,564 CAD average.
• It broadens the lineup with more configuration choices, including sporty and luxurious variants.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy. If you are willing to pay more for a broader range of configurations and a newer model year, the 2020 is worth a look.

How does the 2019 Toyota RAV4 compare to the 2019 Honda CR-V?
