CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Nissan Altima
Summary
With 64 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,792 CAD, 31.3% of 2019 Nissan Altima listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Nissan Altima 4.88 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Nissan Altima stands out as the start of Nissan’s sixth-generation redesign, and its appeal begins with its sleeker, sportier-looking shape and slightly larger overall size. It is positioned as a quiet, comfortable midsize sedan rather than a performance car, but it still brings a strong mix of style, room, and equipment. In Canada, it comes with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine making 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive is standard. That combination gives it a practical edge in a class where some rivals do not offer AWD at all.
The 2019 Nissan Altima is also notable for its safety and convenience features. Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, radar-based blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and high-beam assist. ProPILOT Assist is standard on all but the base S trim, and the model earned an IIHS “Top Safety Pick” rating in 2019 and 2020. Inside, it includes a touchscreen with physical knobs and buttons, Bluetooth, USB ports, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, while navigation and a Bose premium audio system are available on higher trims.
There are a few trade-offs. The CVT dulls the driving experience, and the back seat is slightly smaller than before, with less legroom overall than the previous generation. Still, the 2019 Nissan Altima remains appealing because it offers a lot of equipment, good fuel economy, and strong value on the used market, with many examples priced well below newer alternatives.

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers repeatedly describing the car positively over time. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you want a used sedan you can count on for everyday driving. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright reliability and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Altima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully before committing.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 63 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.79% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $16,241 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $16,796 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,481 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying well and keeping the car in strong condition. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $19,451 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $16,796 CAD average.
- It adds broader appeal with easy-to-use tech and multiple powertrain choices.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2019 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping the used market carefully. If you can stretch for the 2020, it may be worth considering for buyers who want a newer model year and are willing to pay more for it.
