CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Mazda CX-5
Summary
With 142 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,170 CAD, 32.4% of 2019 Mazda CX-5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mazda CX-5 4.83 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 stands out because it blends compact-SUV practicality with a more polished, driver-focused character than many rivals. Mazda’s second-generation CX-5 was introduced in 2017 for the 2018 model year, and it brought a sleeker exterior, a more stylish interior, and a near-premium look and feel. It also kept the brand’s emphasis on sharp handling, which helps explain why the CX-5 has long appealed to buyers who want an SUV that feels more engaging on the road.
For 2019, the CX-5’s engine line-up was centred on a 2.5-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv engine with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive was standard, while Mazda’s i-Activ AWD was still optional that year. The model was also well equipped, with the GX trim including 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear-view camera, air conditioning, keyless entry, push-button start, and Mazda Connect with a seven-inch touchscreen display and SMS text delivery. Higher trims added features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, and a Bose stereo system.
That said, the 2019 CX-5 was not the most practical choice in the class, and its infotainment systems were slightly outdated. Owners also praised its value, luxury feel, handling, fuel efficiency, interior quality, and safety features, while some wished for more power from the base engine and noted the absence of certain high-end conveniences. Even so, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 remains distinctive for offering a more upscale, enjoyable alternative in the compact SUV segment.

This is a great car! Has android and Apple car play. Sirius XM ready. Grand Touring has all the creature comforts. Curve adaptive headlights improve nighttime driving visibility. Seats are ergonomic. Very good on gas! Decently powerful for a 4 cylinder. Comfortable seats. AWD models have great traction in wet. Havent driven in snow with it yet, but will be soon.

How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,490 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $21,142 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,374 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,276 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.67% |
Prices have softened 7.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 301 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.83/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, and impressive fuel efficiency, and many also like the interior quality and safety features. It suits you well if you want a compact SUV that feels more polished and engaging than many rivals, even if you are not prioritising maximum practicality. With 26.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centred on value, quality, and confidence over time. That said, a used example can still carry normal age-related risk, so a careful inspection and service-history review remain important for long-term ownership peace of mind.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 301 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,142 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $21,490 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,276 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale values may face some pressure if the market stays competitive. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on condition, mileage, and maintenance records to protect your return. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to move on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $23,129 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $21,490 CAD average.
- It adds a more premium-feeling interior and broader appeal.
The bottom line: The 2019 is the better primary pick if you want strong owner satisfaction and a lower entry price. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2019 makes especially good sense; if you want a newer feel and can stretch your budget, the 2020 is the alternative to compare.
