CarGurus Analysis: 2019 MINI Cooper
Summary
With 88 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,683 CAD, 36.4% of 2019 MINI Cooper listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 MINI Cooper 4.56 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 MINI Cooper stands out for the same reasons the nameplate has long appealed to enthusiasts: it is small, stylish, and genuinely fun to drive. In the third-generation MINI Cooper, the standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder that makes 134 horsepower, and MINI also offers a 189-horsepower Cooper S, along with more serious John Cooper Works versions. That mix gives the car a broad personality range, from an economy-minded premium hatchback to something much sharper, while the brand’s go-kart-like handling remains a core part of the appeal.
This generation also brings a few practical and tech advantages that help the 2019 MINI Cooper feel more modern. It is 12 to 25 centimetres longer than the second-generation model and offers a four-door variant, yet it still keeps the compact footprint that defines the car. Inside, the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen adds Apple CarPlay and navigation, and the light ring around it changes colours with drive modes for a distinctive cabin touch. Buyers should still expect compromises, though: the back seats are tight, cargo space is limited, Android Auto is not available, and the car’s reliability record is not especially strong.

I love Mini Coopers. I think no sunroof would be better as it is a little noisy but otherwise, great gas mileage and great engine!

This car drives great and runs very smooth. I love the heated seats and back up camera. The convertible top is a fun feature and I cant wait for warmer weather.

Is the 2019 MINI Cooper reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also suggests that many drivers find it dependable enough to enjoy over time, especially when they value the car’s unique character and driving feel. At the same time, the same feedback points to some complexity in the features, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and how well the car has been cared for.

What is the 2019 MINI Cooper's resale value?
The current average of $18,507 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,326 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The model’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially among shoppers who want style and driving enjoyment in a compact package.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,121 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,507 CAD average.
- It adds an electric powertrain option for greener driving.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2019 if you want the better value and are focused on the classic MINI formula of style and fun. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model with an electric option, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
