CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Honda HR-V
Summary
With 48 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,872 CAD, 25.0% of 2019 Honda HR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Honda HR-V 4 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical, easy-to-live-with subcompact SUV that blends a higher driving position with the footprint of a small car. It was part of the first generation, which helped popularise the segment in Canada by combining SUV versatility with everyday affordability and agile handling. For buyers, that mix of usefulness and value is a big part of the appeal, especially if they want something compact but still flexible enough for daily errands and occasional trips.
What makes the 2019 model especially distinctive is the mid-life refresh it received that year. Honda gave it revised body panels, upgraded LED headlights, and a new infotainment system with physical buttons and a volume knob, addressing one of the earlier car’s weaker points. It also added the Honda Sensing package as standard, bringing more advanced safety systems. The HR-V’s Magic Seat system remains a major strength, allowing the rear seats to fold in multiple ways for different passenger and cargo needs, and cargo space is generous at between 1,583 and 1,665 litres.
There are trade-offs, though. The 2019 Honda HR-V uses a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with 141 hp, and the source notes that acceleration is weak compared with rivals. It is also tuned more for fuel economy than performance, with a combined rating of between 7.6 and 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres depending on model year and equipment. Even so, its smooth ride, comfortable interior, strong visibility, and reputation for reliability make it a sensible choice for buyers who value practicality over speed.

I like several aspects of this car. It is a small car but it sets up high making it easy to enter and exit. That is especially good for older people. The visibility is good. The ride is very comfortable for a small vehicle and it is built by Honda so the quality is very good.

This is a great car. It has so many safety features that make me feel secure driving. I purchased it used, but honestly, it looks barely used at all! It’s quiet, has a smooth ride, is very comfortable and has plenty of room for groceries, plants, luggage, a few grandkids even. Mine has new Michelin tires so that may be adding to the nice ride. I also have a moonroof which for me was a big priority. The electronics I need to get used to, but the keyless entry is wonderful. The self locking as soon as I am inside is a great feature for any woman wanting to feel safe.

Generally — the 2019 Honda HR-V earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction for a used subcompact SUV. Owners most often praise its smooth ride, comfortable interior, and excellent fuel economy, while also highlighting the safety features and good visibility. That lines up well with its practical, easy-to-live-with setup and flexible everyday usefulness, especially if you want a compact vehicle that still works well for errands and occasional trips. With 22.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop carefully.

What is the 2019 Honda HR-V's resale value?
The current average of $19,915 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,160 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the HR-V easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, a lower entry price today can help keep ownership costs manageable, but it also means you should be realistic about how much value the vehicle may retain over the next few years. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

Choose the 2019 if:
- 22.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.01% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 HR-V is the better pick if you want the refreshed model-year updates, strong practicality, and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2019 remains the more balanced choice for shoppers who value comfort, versatility, and a more modern feature set.
