How much does the 2019 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 8.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 753 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Honda Civic earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and impressive safety features, and they also like its stylish appearance and good fuel economy. That lines up well with the Civic’s role as a compact car that feels more upscale than its price suggests, while still giving you sedan, coupe, and hatchback choices. For shoppers who want a practical daily driver with a more engaging feel, it remains a strong fit.

The market also shows 31.2% of listings as good or great deals, which points to decent value opportunities.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights reliability, and the expert drive notes that the Civic is set up to be safe, comfortable, and reliable for commuting and everyday use. It also says the car’s engines deliver smoothness and refinement, while the manuals and CVT are both well executed. Honda’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and trim you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic lineup includes sedan, coupe, and hatchback body styles, and the Sport trim adds a centre-mounted exhaust and some of the exterior flash of the Si for less money. The Touring trim brings LED headlights, navigation, and the top-tier audio system, while the base trims are more straightforward and less feature-rich.
• Powertrain: Base sedans and coupes use a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, while Touring models get a turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-four with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. The hatchback uses the turbocharged engine on all trims, and the Si and Type R sit at the performance end of the range.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim level except the Si and Type R. It includes forward-collision alert with forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are a major plus, and Bluetooth is standard as well. Honda’s Garmin-based navigation is a standout, and LaneWatch is available on certain trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbo engine is the one to favour if you want quicker response and better mid-range acceleration than the base 2.0-litre.

Which 2019 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda Civic is offered in 7 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Sport, Touring, Si, and Type R.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the simplest entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Civic’s core value and driving feel without paying for extras.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the Civic affordable while adding the essentials you’re most likely to use every day.
• EX: This is a smart step up if you want more convenience and a better overall balance without jumping to the pricier Touring.
• Sport: This is the trim to choose if you want the Civic’s style and a bit more visual attitude for less than the Si.
• Touring: This is the pick if you want the most complete comfort-and-tech package, including LED headlights, navigation, and the top-tier audio system.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with much stronger output and a manual-only setup for drivers who want more engagement.
• Type R: This is the extreme performance model, but it sits apart from the mainstream Civic experience and is best for buyers who specifically want maximum speed.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim level except the Si and Type R.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 753 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.58% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,455 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,612 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,359 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Civic has become a bit more accessible for used buyers, which can also mean future sellers may face more competition when they list their car. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone selling into a softer market. The Civic’s broad appeal helps support demand, but resale will still depend on trim, mileage, and condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic safe?

The 2019 Civic earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories except the coupe, which gets a four-star passenger-side frontal crash rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim level except the Si and Type R. It includes forward-collision alert with forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. That makes the Civic a strong safety value in this class.

The main caveat is that the Si and Type R do not get the standard Honda Sensing suite, so safety equipment varies by trim.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Civic’s refined, value-focused formula with only minor tweaks.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,144 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $18,612 CAD average.
• It adds more standard safety and convenience features.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better buy if you want a lower entry price and a proven formula that still feels well rounded. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year with extra standard features, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade; otherwise, the 2019 gives you the stronger value play.
